Salt and pepper on cantaloupe? Hmmmmm.... Maybe I'll try it. My sister and I every now and then mix a dreether of cayenne into a small glass of lemon juice and drink it first thing. Zzzzzzzizzzzzz! You don't need coffee.

I've never tried salt and pepper on cantaloupe. I do like the fruit, though.

Teresa and BB, I think salt & pepper on cantaloupe is a Southern thing...or a Southwest thing...or some thing. My father put salt & pepper on cantaloupe and he used them on watermelon, too.
Teresa, I will have to try your cayenne and lemon juice...yeah, I can see why you wouldn't need the caffeine! But what is a dreether? Am I living a sheltered life for not knowing the word? Or is it your family's shorthand for a smidgeon?

My dad used to put pepper on his cantaloupe. I do just salt. Too good.

I think a dreether [not sure of spelling] is Irish. I've only ever heard it spoken in Ireland, and yes, it's a smidgen. A little bit.

Ellie, it's not the cantaloupe...it's the gin you soak it in.
