Assumption of Command

Gravatar Mustang23,
I may be in the minority here, but I don't accept MR. DickHEAD Durban's apology. It's too little too late. What he said can NEVER be retracted, no matter how apologetic he may appear. All he has done is give fodder to Al Quiada(?) and those radicals. You should have seen how Al Jazera(?) replayed his speach over and over, fueling the hatred of America that the Islamic (Fanatic) World seems hell bent on tearing this country apart.
I want MR. DickHEAD Durban to resign! Period! Then maybe I'll accept his apology!!!
Michael

Gravatar Pothus,

You might be right, it could be too little too late to take his apology seriously, but that is not my point. I want this over with. I don't want to hear about it, I don't want more potential bad guys to hear about it. I just want it over! (at least until his re-election campaign)

Trust me when I say this, I hate what he said and I have very little respect for the man right now, but my need to see this ended overpowers my need to see him punished!

thank you for your passion for protecting and supporting the troops.

Gravatar I accept his apology but feel that he should be asked to step down as Whip leader. As the second highest leader in the senate, he should be held to a higher standard. Senator Trent Lott was forced to step down after his birthday wishes to Strom Thurmond and those remarks, while bad in themselves did not harm our country as much as Durbins will.

Gravatar I agree he needs to step. Seems like everything is partisan now and not about the good of the country.

Gravatar Well, I will never forget what he said. However, he did the right thing. Something rarely seen in Congress these days. Stepping down as whip, maybe.

Gravatar Mustang23,
You're right. It should be over. Enough said. After I sent you my comment, I thought about what my mother used to say, (God rest her soul). I have a quick mouth and don't think before I speak.
Nothing angers me more than hearing somebody, ANYBODY, bad mouth our Armed Forces. I grew up with my Father in the Military, (Air Force), and know of the sacrifices first hand that the Military and their families endure. When IDIOT's like that say the things they said, and only for Political gains, about the Military, it burns me up!
My Father served during Viet Nam and came home at the end of that war, having to hear similar things from uncaring, moonbats back then.
What you and our other Military personnel are doing over in Iraq is nothing short of tremendous. To help an oppressed people, like the Iraqi's were under Saddam, and give them the opportunity to live a life free and begin to govern themselves is truly awesome.
I may have never served in the Military, (and it wasn't from the lack of trying), but I will defend you and your fellow Soldiers, Sailors, Marines and Air Force personnel with every breath I take.
Bless All of you and may you get the job done and come home safe!
Watch your Six.

PS) Enough said, move on!
Michael

(and on a lighter note: How bout them Royal's?!)

Gravatar I plan on dropping it myself, except for one problem: the dems are now introducing a bill that demands public hearings on the abuse in Guantanamo even though there are three "closed door" committees reviewing it now.

which means, what they want is to keep rubbing salt in the wound and make sure every aspect, real, imagined, barely worth mentioning, etc is to be made public for international consumption.

What happened to "loose lips sink ships"?

these folks are playing dangerous for political reasons. If I thought for a moment the party that supported "extraordinary renditions" during the Clinton years was really interested in simply setting the high moral ground, I'd buy it. but still want limited open committee meetings since we are at war after all and we should not be telling the enemy what we do.

durbin is done, but the rest of them are still at it. Waxman explicitly said that detainees were "tortured" in Afghanistan. Do you really think Durbin's apology is the end?

Gravatar I don't think it should be dropped. There's a meme which has been promoted and tolerated by the Democrat Party for at least 2 years(if not longer) and that is to exxagerate anything which has gone wrong in either Afghanistan or Iraq. The Dem politicians continually denigrate the military and nobody calls them on. Durbin is just another one in line. I think this should be "The.Line.In.The.Sand." I'm not even sure if it is that the Democrats hate the military (altho I think many do) but more so are willing to use our fighting forces to leverage their hatred of President Bush. The means justify the end.

Gravatar I agree and disagree. I agree Durbin is done, either resign or lose reelection, he's history. But the danger continues with the remaining foaming loose lips that desire to lose this war. Apologies are nice, but whose will it be next week? I'm so afraid that without stronger outcry from our citizens, our military and alllies will continue paying the price. For me to accept Durbin's apology, it needs to be made in public with all the Democrates standing behind him, otherwise it appears he's just "C.Y.A.".

Gravatar here's what I wrote to my Senators:

Please understand that a US Senator calling our brave men and women of the US Armed Forces the same as Hitler's SS deathcamp guard, Pol Pot's murdering sadists, or Stalin's brutal thugs is not something that can be lightly brushed off with mere words and glycerin tears like some TV preacher caught with a hooker.

If you accept Durbin's "I'm sorry some of you were too stupid to understand me" statement in lieu of a censure and/or being impeached for Sedition, you will not receive my vote again.

I have been a faithful Republican since I started voting in the late 1970s. But if your party is not going to challenge this type of anti-American activity within the Senate, it's time to find someone else who will.

Gravatar By all means, move on. But Durbin will come up for re-election. Calmly cast your vote for someone other than a man who cannot possibly understand why we are fighting in Iraq or how his remarks can demoralize our men and women in uniform. Don't waste energy on being mad -- get even.

Gravatar Forgive and forget? That's really what they want us to do. We as Americans have a very short memory and in general are very forgiving. This is what the senator wants us to do and I am not buying in to what he wants.
That being said, if some woman walks up to me and slaps me in the face for no reason other than she is mad at men then asks me to forgive her after a few days do you think I should? Maybe, but the next time I see her I am going to be very wary. My forgiveness of Dick is not the point, my lack of trust and general dislike of him is what will guide my view of him in the future.
