Actually, you've been down-in-the-mouth since The Kid Incident.
Sounds like you need to maybe do something for yourself - take a creative writing class or join a knitting workshop where everyone tells you how wonderful you're doing even if what you're knitting is crap.
Strokes and small, personal successes go a looong way.
Of course, so do prescription drugs and tequila - a combination of all of the above is optimal. :o)
