Oh dear.
Yes I think a scream is absolutely justified. It makes me uneasy to think why she was allowed to teach the subject in the first place?!

I'm going to end up homeschooling, aren't I.
Well you've got your decision and it sounds great. It must be nice to have it settled.
Also, at least you were there.
And you know what I think the problem and solution are.

Yes, hearing that as a parent might compel me to say a few things... perhaps to a few adminstrators. Whatever the case, my child would not be taking that teacher the following year if I had any alternative whatsoever.
And now for something completely different: whatever happened with the VBC? Was a book chosen? Is it still this week? Is it happening at all? If not, I completely understand with all that's on your plate. If you do plan to do one, though, and haven't chosen a book, Orson Scott Card's latest short story collection Keeper of Dreams is an excellent choice because you could focus on just a few of the stories if you want. I'm about halfway through, and it's been a lot of fun (see my post from today) to read. Anyway, good luck with the school choices.

Utterly frightening.
Sounds like you couldn't have made a better choice.

"uncomfortable with "all this technical stuff"
This is the Science teacher? Good God. Hopefully you went straight to the administartors, or the school board.
This person has no busuiness teaching.

at the end of the year you really should tell the principal or the school board or something about that uncomfortable with subject/no prep work thing. I can't believe someone would even atdmit to that!

It's wonderful when there's affirmation of making the right decision.
Our kids' school just finally got certified for the IB primary program this year... the boy has been taught the curriculum since he started kindergarten though (his teacher is the IB coordinator) and I tell you I am SOOOO impressed with the projects that they are taking on and the breadth of knowledge that my 2nd grader is gaining.
Good move, Melissa!
