Gimme Some Moe!

Gravatar Nice list!

Mine's up!

Read mine!

I'm an attention whore that doesn't give a rat's arse about you!!!

Gravatar I miss NOT having to have a goddamned fucking cell phone. Sorry. But I hate them. I hate the way they create this atmosphere of no one showing up on time or keeping their word cuz, hey, you can always call and say you're running late. If anyone cares, they're being unreasonable. We're BUSY people. Busy, busy, even though everything is more convenient than it ever was. I miss lazing around and not feeling guilty about it.

Gravatar Me, too! I hate the cell, too, Paula. Passionately. At first it was a novelty thing and it was cool. But now everyone uses it as an excuse, just like you said. And people are using them in places they shouldn't (theaters, church, etc.) Irks the hell out of me!

Gravatar I miss radio stations that aren't nearly all simulcast. Even my Pickle station is simulcasted for most of the day, except when my Fishie is at the helm.

I miss B-sides too.

Oh and nice list :P

Since I run an meme site, I've conditioned myself to say something more than Great list, because I visit everyone that plays my memes

Gravatar things i miss:

i miss the tv sign offs too! in fla, at 11pm, the announcer would say "it's 11 o'clock, do you know where your children are?"

i miss the sound of an lp dropping down on a record that had just been played! you know the arm that magically held the darn thing up while the first record was playing?

i miss the original vw beetle!

i miss Mr. Norcross, my 7th grade geography teacher, who made us stand next to our desk when he called on us to answer a question...and if we didn't know the answer or got it wrong, we had to remain standing until he called on us again. my love of travel and geography came from his classes.

i miss "party lines" on the old telephones....great way to hear the neighborhood gossip!

i miss ed sullivan

i miss the innocence of being a child in the 1960's. we left our doors unlocked, we could talk to people we didn't know, and we could trust teachers, priests, cops, the media, and some politicians.

i miss greenpeace

peace, love, and bobby sherman!

Gravatar Oh, and GREAT LISTS, everyone!

Lisa, and I MISS YOU!

Bobby Sherman was groovy. Way groovy.

Andrea: You mean they simulcast all but his show? That's so unusual in radio these days!

Gravatar ummmm Good list???
And just for the record - I have read every one of your T13's since I first found your blog...which was only a couple of weeks ago
www.whogivesaratsass.com ??? ABSOLUTELY HILARIOUS!
ya know I'm gonna have to try it and see what come up!
I absolutely loved that movie Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band - but I was young and didn't know any better LOL

Gravatar On a tangent perhaps, but here goes...

I was visiting my folks in New York City in August of 2003, and was there when the blackout hit. In fact, at the precise moment the power died I was in a subway car with my then 4-year-old daughter. We were stuck on the sweltering train with only emergency lighting for about 2 hours before the police and subway workers got to us. We then trudged along the tunnel for about 10 mins before emerging to the surface.

My point? Well, my cellphone worked (I guess the network had backup power) and I was able to call my folks. At their end, all of their cordless electric phones were dead, but their one old-fashioned rotary phone still rang. So thanks to a combination of modern and archaic technology, I was able to tell them we were alright. So I still have a soft spot for rotaries!

And just to end the story: it took me another 90 mins or so on foot with Darling Daughter on my shoulders to walk home. Qiute the adventure, all-in-all.

On a separate note, I well remember the joy and anticipation of waiting up for Christmas TV specials. What a treat!

Gravatar I miss REAL Thursday Thirteens!!! (Just kidding... couldn't resist!)

I used to have that EXACT PHONE. That isn't plastic, folks, it's metal. That phone could be used to kill someone. The person who stole mine, for instance.

I was channel surfing the other day and stopped at "A Charlie Brown Christmas". Guess what? It was a NEW ONE!!!! Same title, lameass new cartoon. Bastards!

Record covers were cool, but I don't miss having to stop making out to turn the damn thing over.

There is stlil a drive in theatre in Las Vegas ... New Mexico, that is.......

Don't remember elevator operators! I DO remember having to wait for the test pattern to go away before Ray Rayner came on. I also remember waiting for the TV to warm up, and the little tiny dot of light that lingered after it was turned off!

I no longer collect comic books, but that is largely because I miss comics that were fun and adventuresome, not "edgy", realistic" or "adult". Modern comics are no fun, they're actually kind of horrifying, and cost too damn much.

Gravatar I don't think stations end at all any more. You'd be suprised at the things you can find on tv at 3 AM. And I miss rotary phones as well. You can still find LP's of your favorite bands, they can cost about 100 bucks, but you can find them.

Gravatar Great list! Seriously, I loved the trip down memory lane, and if I'm reading the map correctly, A Charlie Brown Christmas was broadcast on CBS. I also remember the less-famous afro'd Oprah from her days on A.M. Chicago.

Gravatar What do I miss? Being 25 years old, for one...
I don't have a landline, only a cell phone, so I don't miss getting those calls at dinertime asking me if I want to buy pet insurance or something stupid like that.

Gravatar I'll probably go ahead and get that pet insurance on the new kids. It makes the check-up and shots cheaper, and can really save you money on more expensive stuff.

Gravatar I miss the days when MTV actually played music videos. Good music videos.

I also miss the Clinton era. Much better than what we have now, that's for sure.

Gravatar What do I miss? Let's see... I miss just 3 or 4 TV stations cause really the TV isn't any better now with all these icky stations. I miss B&W TV cause it was more magical trying to imagine what color everything was. I also miss the days before all the computerized toys and stuff; seems we all communicated more and got out of the house more often! Sorry you're not listing on the hub, but I'm glad you stopped by! Have a great weekend!
DK

Gravatar I hardly get enough visitors anyway but I post whatever I feel like I just did a list on Cold War Songs cause I liked your long songs lists and wanted to do something a little different... thanks for the idea though.

Some of the things I miss about the good ole' days... hmm.. 70mm movie screens, drive ins, classic Star Wars toys, floppy discs, Evil Empires (real and imagined), real five and dimes (though they were more like dimes and quarters when I was a kid , and Tom Landry... but I sort of like these days too. Life's a little too fast, but not too bad at times.

Have a great weekend.

Gravatar I hear ya about Thursday 13. I've often thought about participating. Sure, I'd love to have massive traffic. But they're all quick-commenters who never come back for a more substantial read. To wit, T13 participants get zillions of comments on Thursdays, then back to their usual numbers every other day of the week.

Sorry, but my blog is far more than a comment whore emporium. As is yours: glad to see you still doing what you do best. Go, Nat!

Gravatar This has got to be the worst list I've ever seen!

Happy TT!

AC

Gravatar Great list! *snicker*

I still have the info on my site, but I had to withdraw from T13 once I started school. I just do not have the time to visit everyone and really read their lists too, so they didn't think I just skimmed it and ran. Plus some would have those inspirational ones that would be 1000+words and I felt terrible when I couldn't read them.

I miss those rotary phones too. We have a drive-in here - it's the only (cheap) way we can all go see a movie. LOVE it. I hope it never closes.

And you're right - when Rudolph, Frosty, Snoopy came on, it was a GREAT day for me. I was excited about it all through school. My mom would make popcorn (the REAL way - not the airpopped/microwaved kind) with melted butter poured over it.

We have a prepaid cell that we use in emergencies or my husband calls from work because his employer shut off the long distance on their phones. (bastards) I do not have a fancy flip phone and honestly do not get why 10 year olds in my oldest's class have them. WTH? Makes no sense to me.
