It seems like I hear warnings about plastic wrap and other plastic food containment come up again every few months. It's always alarming and confusing. Then I find lots of stuff that says that there isn't really any danger. A quick look at the Glad and Saran websites reveals that they claim their products are polyethylene (they're listed under #4 on the summary page you provided). So, which plastic wraps are PVC? I'll have to check my generic stuff at home to see if it's labeled at all.

Plastic scares me, no matter what number it is. I try to avoid it, but that is nearly impossible these days. To compound the problem with BPA, some people microwave their food in plastic wrap, or in the plastic container that it comes in. Who knows what other little molecules are leaching out of our packaging when we zap it in the microwave. Others will wash their plastic water bottles in the dish washer so that they can reuse them again - a big no no.
For those that are pregnant or breastfeeding, I suggest the book "The Complete Organic Pregnancy". It has a laundry list of chemicals and consumer goods that potentially harm mom and child. Until then, keep a skeptical eye out for plastics that are "microwave/dishwasher safe." Just use glass.

Good post, much better than the one last year on phthalates. Did you know that BPA is used to line the metal portions of most infant formula containers? It is mindblowing...

And many other food containers- many lined tins, for example.
