You might be interested that the YKON collective for the Singapore biennale consisted of Tellervo Kalleinen, Oliver Kochta-Kalleinen, Petri Saarikko and Sasha Huber; the first two artists had an Artspace residency last year in Sydney. They created a video installation 'The Making of Utopia' which portrays four utopian communities in Australia: the basis for the videos were narratives written by the community members. More information at www.artspace.org.au/2005/10/kalleinen.html.

As someone pointed out with a certain Singaporean logic, “You can’t call it a Biennale if there’s only going to be one.“

Let me see now - there's the dumb and conformist Singaporean versus (presumably) the incisively intelligent aussie individualist. Then there's Singapore's unthinking consumerism, whilst in Australia,we shop with taste and discrimination... There's the brain drain - something completely unknown here, and you gotta love a country that can export its drug mules for execution elsewhere, as well as being in breach of international human rights conventions in a myriad of ways. But for all that we're smarter, because 'we know' our govt's fucked?

Singapore doesn't export it's drug mules, it kills them 'on site'.

Onya dazed! Try comparing what the US State Departnment has to say about Sinaporean democracy, civil rights abuses and distortion of the law - and perhaps a perusal of similar reports by Amnesty and Human Rights Watch - to Australia's record. No one is pretending Australia is a wonderful caring compassionate country, but you're just wrong in that oversimplification.

Dazed makes a good point. We shouldn't criticise, pass comment or seek out other points of view until our own country, point of view and opinions are both perfect and free of prejudice.
