A great piece of art? A great work?
My god! What is wrong with you people? Too much art school BS and not enough reality?

It's funny. A bit like that other recent one in the States where the Yale (or whatever) art student is supposed to have repeatedly induced miscarriages as an art project.
Dig the funeral home waiting room music in the Youtube clip. That's the kind of music they always stick in for topics of bereavement, lost children, tortured animals, nostalgia etc. Tender feelings brand.
The old dog looks pretty contented, eh? Maybe that's just in the eye of this beholder.

this is obviously what the work is? no?
in the name of art? does it really matter what its in the name of?
we let hundereds of things die everyday.....including humans....
i assume whoever started the petition to save the dog is up all night trying to save ever woman and child in dafur? doubt it.
having defended the work i would still have found it pretty hard not to throw some food in to the poor thing.

That's NOT art, that's cruel. Why hasn't anyone arrested this ass yet?! The bastard should be tied to a pole and left to starve. That's NOT art. That's cruel.

If you took a Whippet (a skinny breed of dog) and told people it was starving any action the dog took while on display would be interpreted as pathetic and caused by starvation.
If the dog chews it's leg it's trying to eat itself, if it growls it's 'mad with hunger'. The display is really about the viewer and how they react to what is presented as cruel.
If the Gallery said it was fake the artist wouldn't be able to re-mount the totally harmless installation anywhere else.
It's actually BRILLIANT art. Look at all the attention it's attracted.
