In 2000, the media -- to a person -- actively loathed Al Gore. Absolutely detested him on an almost pathological level and it reflected in every nanosecond of their coverage of him.
It's ne of the reason's I get really pissed when people say Al ran a bad campaign. The fact that he won the popular vote in the face of a press corps that was going out of their way to sabotage him at every turn shows that he in fact ran a brilliant campaign.

Like I said, it would be gravy if the press actually were neutral in campaigns. For the time being, they can cut the smug neutral referee crap.
