Excellent article, but what if it was the "terrorists" who did it, but the US government and it's agents?

Ignorant and stupid. Comparing the mass murders of thousands of innocent people to daily accidents...are you retarded? I can't believe I wasted minutes of my life reading this thoughtless dribble.

Gravatar Ignorant is missing the point and complaining about it.

Gravatar The end result of either an accident or a murder is the tax it has on human lives, so i think the actions are very comparable.
It's good to keep in perspective the odds of being killed from a terror attack to other seemingly benign activities.

Gravatar I completely agree. Thank you for rationality.

Gravatar "re-organizing our society and taking away our freedoms."

Are you serious. We have already lost most civil rights in the last 5 years than we have in all of America's short life!

We need to restore our liberties, no other candidate has put his pen where his mouth is and pledged to protect our rights! http://video.google.com/ videopla...774663533107477

Gravatar It's not about saving lives but controlling lives.

Gravatar Excellent post. It's all about fear and this goverment seems to perpetuate fear in an effort to control. People overcome their fear of driving. People need to overcome their fear of terrorism.

I would want to point out the potential of a terrorist act could in fact inflict much more death through a bio or nuke attack. But, the possibility of those happening, let alone on a large enough scale to impact a sizeable portion of a city's populous are apparently quite remote (sorry, I don't have any figures, just recall reading that a couple years ago you have a better chance of winning a million dollars in the lottery than you do being involved in a terrorist incicdent).

Gravatar I thought it an excellent article. We have state senators here (lower case deliberate) who object to red light and speeding cameras here, never understanding that both actions result in road deaths. "Ignorant" seems to fail to realize that traffic deaths take innocent lives, also. In the case of drunk driving, it seems to be mass murder to me.

Gravatar Amen, brother. Couldn't have said it better myself.

Gravatar I fully agree.. Great article.

Gravatar Good article, my only suggestion is that the choice between living free and dying to terrorist attacks, or living unfree but secure, is a false dichotomy. Americans aren't weak, we can live free and live, even if that means fighting terrorists hand-to-hand in our streets if necessary. Better that than to be turned into a herd sheep by our own Big Brother government.

Not sure that you can call most car wrecks and attendant deaths "accidents".
Car mfrs have for years resisted safety innovations.
Drivers themselves refuse to give driving the care and attention it deserves.
Police do not regularly enforce traffic laws. Speed limits are routinely ignored by many drivers. They are actively hostile to drivers who are 'slow pokes' or 'driving like old men'
So the point that we as a society ignore preventable deaths while obsessing over 9/11 is a good one.

Gravatar You didn't mention the fact that more Americans have died in Iraq fighting an unrelated war than died on 9/11. Also, hundreds of thousands of Iraqis have also died. However, I do agree that making this comparison is in poor taste. While death by any sort is sad, I still think that the method of death (in this case, murder of innocents) makes a huge difference in people's experience and perception of it. I expect that my car is dangerous. I don't expect that someone is going to fly a plane into the building I work in.

Gravatar sad but true... no way to peace, peace is the way...

Gravatar We could also have spent the mula on better public transit, and saved far more than 3k lives, with no loss of freedom.

Gravatar the biggest thing that 9/11 gave us was a reason for Americans to whine for years to come, and to be the biggest at something, even if it is only number of people dead in one shot.
