So nice to know Bull OhReally has his finger on the pulse of the African-American community . . .
And Bull, all you really need do is go to Sen. Obama's official website to see what bills he has proposed to benefit ALL Americans, not just the AA community . . .
. . . But that would be something real journalists do - I forgot, you're not a real journalist; you just play one on TV . . .

The O'Reilly Factor is a United States television talk show on the Fox News Channel hosted by commentator Bill O'Reilly, who discusses current political and social issues with guests from opposing ends of the political spectrum. The show premiered in 1996 along with the Fox News Channel. It was previously known as the O'Reilly Report, and O'Reilly's first guest was General Barry McCaffrey, then the Director of the Office of National Drug Control Policy (or "Drug Czar").

Barack Obama has done more for the black community in America than 99.9% of the rest of the population (black or white). He personally started and led a barrage of programs to do everything from getting asbestos removed from people's apartments in the Chicago projects, to establishing mentorship programs citywide to keep kids in high school and offer some direction (half the kids were dropping out), to organizing churches to help thousands of poor families whose primary breadwinner had been laid off after steel factories closed in the 80s, to developing and leading a program that registered 150,000 new voters in the inner city. He has a slew of accomplishments in the state Senate on the topic as well. Start by reading his first book Dreams from My Father, then go to historic media reports, and finally to his (very long) government record, after more than a decade in politics, working his way up helping people at the absolute bottom directly and face to face.
Rev Sharpton may be full of good intention, but he does not strike me as a very intelligent man (after all his years in politics he doesn't catch BOR's opener pegging Obama as the "leftist loony" as BOR views would call it and Clinton as a centrist (the latter is not true and something no person on the right would buy for a second). Of course BOR would rather see Clinton in the general election; he's scared of Obama's cross-over appeal (scores of old Republican colleges are going on record saying "Obama is certainly a Democrat, but he is someone who takes the time to understand both sides of the story; people understand a respect his reasoning. BOR is out of business if politics becomes civil, adn civil understanding is Obama's campaign tagline. Stop letting the media allow Sharpton to represent blacks, he doesn’t seem to know what he’s doing and so he ends up hurting more than he’s helping.
I am black.

CORRECTION: I originally wrote "and that they need to appear on his show if they want to make it to the White House." from my recollection. Reviewing the video it was Sharpton who said that if candidates make it past O'Reilly they could have a shot at the WH. I apologize for the error.

If Obama started trumpeting all he has done for, and specifically targeting, Black voters, O'Reilly would probably insinuate if not blatantly accuse Obama of being racist. The rightwing are at it already over his association with the overwhelmingly African-American church he attends.
As far as O'Reilly trying to get Sharpton to say something negative - its the old divide and conquer tactic.
O'Reilly is a scumbag (excuse me for stating the obvious).

You guys aren't understanding what O'Reilly was saying. He was making a point that we don't know what Obama has done, because no one pays attention to Illonois politics outside of Illonios. He didn't actually mean that Obama hasn't done anything for the Black community.
O'Reily is not trying to undermine Sharpton or Obama, he's just trying to call BS on politiacal vagueness that all politians have.
That being said, I am probably closer to beiing "right winged" but I'm almost certainly voting Obama 08.

"He didn't actually mean that Obama hasn't done anything for the Black community."
His line of questioning implied that that was exactly what he meant. If O'Reilly is unaware of what Obama accomplished, and wants to enlighten himself and his audience, why didn't he ask someone familiar with Illinois politics? More importantly, why didn't he ask what Obama did for all citizens of Illinois? Surely he wasn't elected to just represent African-Americans?

It's revealing that the talking heads who routinely express contempt for any suggestion that racism may still be a pervasive obstacle within our society are the same ones who ask these silly questions of blacks but would never ask a white pundit the same type of question--"What has [white candidate] ever done for you (white America); unless (s)he was racist or blinded by stereotypes.

mom22 -- exactly!! O'Reilly is about as dumb as they get...
If he really wanted to know or discuss Obama's accomplishments, he could look them up!
Really, O'Rashy hasn't got teh intarnets?? Even the Presitard does "the Google!"
...Instead, O'Reilly's playing the role of spmeone with the laziest pf minds -- your typical uninquisitve FOX watcher.
Funny, though, that this tactic of O'Reilly's would have the opposite effect on most normal folks (not the FOX fan droolcup squad) -- that instead of remaining uninformed, they'd take the few seconds to do a Google search and look up Obama's record.
Way to go Bill, you're helping drive more buzz to Obama.
Only your true unquestioning mushbrained fans will follow your lead and say "duh me not know me not find out, eethur"

like everything with o reilly , at the end of the day , its all about himself

Obama pulled me from a burning house and then ran back in and saved my goldfish too.
Obama taught me how to build a spacecraft and fly it to Jupiter and back.
Obama showed me how to get the best calling plan for my lifestyle.
Obama once chewed a shard of metal into the exact right shape key to get me in my car when I locked myself out.
Obama has done a lot for me but I don't think he likes Al Sharpton as much as he likes me so it follows he'd do less for him.

Sharpton isn't black enough for Obama.
Obama met Chuck Norris one day when Chuck came to Washington to tell the prez'nit his weekly orders.

no worries.... only reason the Reich wingers are attacking Hillary and Obama is because they are scared to death of the two.... and because they have nobody running with a chance of actually winning, unless Rudy and McCain run as moderates, but then they can't win a primary unless they pander to the ultra right wing evangelical nutjobs.
nevertheless, look for Religion to factor into the election bigtime in 2008. With the perspective that Hillary and the clintons are not too spiritual, Obama, with his deep religiousity will get the nod. He'd be smart to choose Bill Richardson, Gov of New Mexico, as his running mate...That way he dominates the African American and Hispanic American vote, the latter an increasing number for the republicans that played significant roles in 2000 and 2004. RIchardson gets you New Mexico, Arizona, and Nevada... Obama can get even more swing states, Iowa, Fla, and we all know Louisiana will prob go dem after Katrina.
At this point, Dems can only ruin it for themselves. They have 2008 served to them on a platter. All they need is for the congress to stand up to Bush on this war...http://www.pollingreport.com/iraq.htm... if they blow this, they're going to have a hard time explaining it in 08

Thats so true! Obama has done nothing for me, despite his years in office. What did he do to prevent September the 11th - nothing! Or hurricane Katrina? Nothing! If only Barrack Obama hadnt been elected.. or something. Im confused. Isnt it bush whos done nothing for anyone? Isnt bush the guy in charge? Isnt it bush with the power to change things for the better - power he has misused to change things for the worse - for everyone?

Old guard is exactly that OLD. Al Sharpton is supposed to represent the Black community and yet he himself is out of touch. He has no idea what is going on with the gen Xers or Gen Y. If he did he would know that we are out there rollin' our eyes in embarassment, looking at him like a stone nut, wondering who the heck he thinks he represents, 'cuz it's certainly not anybody I know.
If he was in touch he wouldn't continue to get pimped by BOR and other media.
