"I love that the Nasdaq is 2800 points lower than when Bill Clinton was president. The Bush tax cuts are working"-Neil Cavuto

I wonder why Minitrue doesn't just drop the pretense? It's not like any of their tiny minority of viewers would care.

Quarterly mutual fund statements are out. I would comment on how terrible the stock market has been, but I don't want to be accused by Phil Gramm of being a whiner.

"The thrust is to drill, drill, drill, which Democrats favor, but they want the oil companies to drill in the areas they've already leased. Fox wants to open up the entire Outer Continental Shelf and ANWR."
melanie

so, what if the leased lands:

1. don't have any oil; or
2. have oil that is is too deep or otherwise cost prohibitive to drill?

now what?

I keep hearing obama saying we need to cut our dependence on foreign oil...but what do we do about it?

hows about we allow big oil to find it, extract it, and deliver it?

if you can not answer that hows about someone tell me how some arbitrary "windfall profits tax" does cut our dependence on foreign oil?

jeff928 | 07.11.08 - 7:21 pm

Yes, praise Jayzus for the $4 gasoline and the fact that my groceries cost a third more than they used to!

dogcatcher | 07.11.08 - 7:28 pm | #

vote for Bob Barr then so you can have your all American world you want. The one where only white male land owners have any rights.

I agree, Real conservatives have no choice but to vote for Bob Barr.

"so, what if the leased lands:

dogcatcher | 07.11.08 - 7:28 pm"

They lease the land because they know it does have oil.

As to point 2... Do you know anything about ANWAR or drill off the Continental Shelf?

You're just an idiot. Who is going to refine all this extra oil?

Why did the oil companies reduce their refining capability over the last 15 years?

dogcatcher | 07.11.08 - 7:37 pm | #

That post does not make any point what so ever.

Can you tell us why the oil companies are not drilling on these exsiting leases?

so, what if the leased lands:

1. don't have any oil; or
2. have oil that is is too deep or otherwise cost prohibitive to drill?

dogcatcher | 07.11.08 - 7:28 pm | #

By this logic, then any additional leases given away in ANWR or in coastal waters could just as likely have no oil or too cost prohibitive to drill. Shouldn't they deal with the leases they already have first?

that's why big oil is dropping wells to get some 150.00 oil.

dogcatcher | 07.11.08 - 7:37 pm | #

Do you think Big Oil really wants to drill so much that supply increases and prices go down? What is in their best interest $150 oil or $75?

Andrew | 07.11.08 - 7:46 pm | #

He needs is single occupancy supersized SUV dam it.

Your asking a question of lifestyle to a person unable to see that change is being forced upon him. And the worse part is he can not blame liberals this time and its driving him crazy.

Jimmy Carter warned us this would happen. Did we listen? No. Thus we are fucked. We are using up the supply faster then the ME can pump it out.

dogcatcher | 07.11.08 - 7:28 pm | #
WTF, dogbone?

Why did the Oilco's lease these lands in the first place, then?

And...why do they maintain the leases on these lands year in and year out -- if they contain no feasible strikes, as you claim?

And with their HISTORICALLY UNPRECEDENTED RECORD BREAKING PROFITS, I would think they can somehow manage to drill whereever, even if the costs are going to be higher.

What's wrong with this idea, dogbone: Maybe they should be working on ways to make that process cheaper, or working towards changing their business into something else -- renewables, perhaps?

Isn't that what your kind suggests average Americans stuck in crappy jobs are supposed to do? Find a new job that is better suited to them?

Also, I believe its part of your Retardlican Mantra, innit? ... "Government can't solve your problems"

So why is it ok for you to bend that rule, so that Government can help private oil companies make money?

Sounds a lot like your core beliefs are rather malleable when it is in your own best interests...hmmm?

Oddly though, there's absolutely no guarantee it would even reduce your gasoline cost by any amount at all, except in FOX/wingnutiverse.

Why do you advocate for Government Intervention on behalf of private industry when it probably benefits only the industry??

Oh right, because Neil Cavuto said it.

By all measurable notions, Dogsniffer should be saying:

"PULL YOURSELVES UP BY YOUR BOOTSTRAPS, YOU PRIVATE OIL COMPANIES!"

But instead, its:
"MR GUBMINT, MAKE IT CHEAPER FOR EXXON AND SHELL AND VALERO!"

Because why? A flashy FOX marketing blitz? er... series of infomercials.. er ... 'newscasts'?

Can't have it both ways droolers.
One minute they defend big oil, the next they expect big oil to sell their product cheaper than they could on the free market.

Melanie, excellent post! Thanks.
I wish the Hounds would all continue keeping track of the stories done on your various shows and posting once a week, at least thru the election.
Since you have to watch, might as well accumulate the data.

gleem | 07.11.08 - 8:09 pm |

=======

You're kind of quiet around here these days, but when you have something to say, it's worth hearing.

Personally I don't watch FOX. Don't watch TV at all. I get all my news from the internet. But the amazing thing is none of these stories are new to me. I've read all of these stories this past week and none of them originated on FOX, mostly AP,Reuters and CNN. Maybe you hounds should do like me and not get your news from just one source. Of course when you discover that all of this so-called FOX News "bias" against Barak Obama is being widely reported on all the major news outlets and isn't really bias at all, just news that Barak is creating all by himself ,you'll have no more use for this website. Then you could just shut it down and go do something constructive with your lives, like feed the homeless or volunteer in an animal shelter.

Chinaskee | 07.11.08 - 9:06 pm

====

It's not that other news outlets aren't covering the same subjects, it's how they are presented. In nearly all of Cavuto's politically themed segments, the flavor was anti-dem/anti-Obama.

It's possible (and professional) to cover those topics and be less biased in the presentation.

I agree with Foggg - this really smacks me in the face. I'm going to do it too.

And dogcatcher asked "I keep hearing obama saying we need to cut our dependence on foreign oil...but what do we do about it? "

That was answered in the post: 'Drive Small cars and Wait for the Wind'." There's lenty we can do now and invest in alternatives. It'll happen under Obama and I can't wait.

The bias is all in your liberal heads.

(edit by MoD)
So your conservative head has no bias?

oh wait! You're in the middle?

Personally I don't watch FOX. Don't watch TV at all.
Chinaskee | 07.11.08 - 9:06 pm | #

So you're able to comment on the bias or lack thereof on FOX and other networks... how?

"Faux Business News"

You gotta be kidding me.

The whole Faux News line up is like an open air dump. One starts to gag because of the stench from 5 miles away.

So, what if ANWR

1. doesn't have any oil
2. has oil that is too deep or cost prohibitive to drill
3. has oil of poor quality

Then what? Where do you suggest drilling next - Disneyland?

Geno's steaks?! That restaurant fails to come even close to snaring the crown when it comes to people who know and love the Philly cheesesteak. That guy's not worth anybody's time.

Nice link, Dogpoo. Nothing like an "impartial" observer like Mr. Cavaney, president and CEO of the American Petroleum Institute (the trade association that represents America's oil and natural gas industry) to help set the record right, eh?

That article is about what's supposed to happen in a Utopian Paradise but we do not live there. We live in a corporate-owned country in the real world.

For example, the omission in the article of the fact that it's American taxpayers that will pay for the oil exploration via tax credits, tax exemptions and differed taxes to oil industry that they will ultimately profit from must be an unimportant oversight.

;>))

Abby | 07.12.08 - 5:17 am | #

those on the wrong side of the argument eventually resort to name calling.

took you all of 3 words.

well done.

2. have oil that is is too deep or otherwise cost prohibitive to drill?

Simple. We just continue to deepen our dependence on oil, sooner or later the price of oil will reach the point that it will become profitable to tap most anything.

Hell,if we continue down this road,we might even find ourselves tapping oil shale. And let's not forget them whales.

Hey Pee, does Mr. Cavaney, president and CEO of the American Petroleum Institute (the trade association that represents America's oil and natural gas industry), who is obviously an impartial observer when it comes to the oil industry, also write for the Paris Business Review?

;>))

Melanie, thank you.A large part of the bias of Fox News is not neccesarily any single story they report, but the steady drumbeat of small negatives, repeated over and over.

A common strategy for Fox apologists is that, "Well, the other networks have reported that". Well, yes, but only on Fox will you find them all lined up like ducks in a row. It's like a reference library for Democratic negatives.

Now if one watched just a few minutes of Cavuto's show, one would see just a snapshot, and may readily miss the inherent bias. But if one has the stomach and the patience to take in an entire week, the bias is unmistakable. So thank you again Melanie.

Speaking of McCain blunders which have been ignored, has Fox News completely ignored the whole "Steelers/Packers" flip-flop? If so, I'd like to be the first to offer my take.

The question "What does Pittsburgh mean to you, Mr. McCain?" was a complete softball that John McCain bunted on and then ran backwards towards 3rd base. If you're ever asked that question in the future, here are 2 safe answers.

1. Safe Answer

"Pittsburgh represents leadership. Western PA is know as the cradle of NFL quarterbacks. Johnny Unitas, Joe Montana, and Dan Marino were all born there."

2. Safe, but outside-the-box answer.

"Former Steelers Quarterback Neil O'Donnel has the lowest career Interception percentage of anyone with over 1,500 attempts in NFL History. I believe in getting the most out of your potential, and I believe that minimizing your mistakes is the best way to do that."

John McCain is on a job interview, and he needs to prepare for standard interview questions like this one. This wasn't a question about John McCain, it was a question about what John McCain knew about Pittsburgh. People care primarily about themselves, and that includes people who are asking questions to others. Additionally, his answer undermines not only the effectiveness of torture, but his reputation as someone who doesn't pander.

For those of you who live in Pittsburgh, it's kind of like when Larry Brown was named MVP of Super Bowl XXX for intercepting 2 of Neil O'Donnel's passes.

Instead of the gas tax holiday bullshit and "drill, drill, drill," with Bush as lead cheerleader, why don't the rightwingers ask the oil companies to improve US refinery capacity and ease off of the record profits in a patriotic gesture to the American people? All they do is create fictional shortage scenarios to gouge us deeper in the wallets.

Here's another idea for the rw windbags: since Bushco is so keen on drilling, how about nationalizing the oil and contracting the job of drilling out to the most efficient (cost, ecology and time-wise) like they do for virtually everything else they do? Who does that oil belong to? The oil companies, or the country? Leave them room for a healthy, not grotesque, profit, and I'd wager the American people still make out.

Meanwhile, do like President Kennedy did with the space program and spend the next ten years not drilling in Alaska or off the coasts, but instead doing dedicated research into improved alternative energy.

All right wingers can do is echo talking points. Good Pravda, here's biscuit.

cavuto is an idiot.

=================================

We know.

Regardless of one's achievements and shortcomings, death is a time when most people remember the best times along with the person that is gone.

Having said that,
what the fuck is wrong with you, Norman? Injecting your political bias with your so called link to "Homepage"?

Sorry, Mods.

Tony Snow was the faceplate of a fascist leaning group of Neocons. I do feel terrible for his family in this time of great pain, however. My prayers are with them.

But I will never hold Snow in anything other than great contempt.

That was such a shame about Tony Snow; the man was only 53 years old, for God's sake. But when I saw practicially blanket coverage on nothing else today, I had to think-"Well, at least Fox doesn't have to cover the massive failing of IndyMac bank."
It's only a mental reccesion, after all
(Thank you, Mr. Gramm) Wonder if they'll bring it up at all in one of their 'business' shows.

Hoode- I'm with you. I feel the ordinary human sympathy for Tony Snow's family on their loss, but death comes for us all, everybody has lost someone close to them and it's not as if Tony kakked at the dinner table and landed face down in a plate of linguini with his wife and kids looking on they knew this was coming.Professionally the guy was a hired liar for one of the most incompetent and corrupt administrations this country has seen and a good one so like you my sympathy is tempered and for Tony I will never have anything but unbridled contempt. Not that I'm going to watch to see, but I'd be surprised if fux noise doesn't spend the next few days doing their best to promote his canonization and trying to attach mcinane to his sympathy coat tails.

China is adding 90,000 cars a month, most of them gross polluters, but some of the are running on compresed natural gas which is cheaper and clean.
If China can do it, why can't we?

If we just drill and drill and drill some more we would not keep up with the rapidly rising world demand.

So instead of drilling more, why not just say - no more - and go with an alternate fuel - maybe natural gas, ethanol, solar, electric or just increase hybrids,

But I will never hold Snow in anything other than great contempt.
hoode | 07.12.08 - 11:58 am | #
_____

Nobody held a gun to Snow's head. He earned that contempt, every shard of it.

And it has nothing to do with the fact that the poor guy was stricken with cancer -- an equal-opportunity killer, as we all know. Nor does it have anything to to with the fact that he was a human being who is being mourned by his loved ones.

It has to do with the mark he made.

"what the fuck is wrong with you, Norman? Injecting your political bias with your so called link to "Homepage"?"

Identified by Priscilla, three identical sockpuppets of the same IP address:

Ale Gore | Homepage | 07.12.08 - 7:34 am | #
Tipper | Homepage | 07.12.08 - 7:36 am | #
Norman | Homepage | 07.12.08 - 9:26 am | #

And most classic, "Tipper" actually posted a reply to a comment made by "Ale Gore".

Another "fair and balanced" week on FOX business shows defending Republicans and smearing Democrats and their ideas. Funny how it is never mentioned a REPUBLICAN ADMINISTRATION has been in charge for almost eight years and where we're at today is the result of their economic mismanagement and failures to take the regulatory function at all seriously.
