Gravatar You know, I was just arguing that John Cook's cartoon was spot-on, and right on cue, the denialists deliver!

Gravatar Oh, come on - the crap on this post is unbelievable!

1. Earth's average temperature jumps up and down through this sort of temperature range all the time - (Loehle & McCulloch, Energy & Environment, 2008, 19, 93-100).

2. The next descent into an ice age will not start for about 25,000 years, after the next warm peak of the current Malenkovitch 100,000 yr orbital eccentricity cycle. And the next glaciation can not last "1000 centuries" - the whole cycle, from warm to ice back to warm again, only takes 100,000 years. And the ice caps have never come down much below 45deg., and then only on the eastern edges of continental masses.

The only 'catastrophe beyond imagining' here is Phil Chapman. Who is this joker? Where does he get his ideas from? Why do the media pulish this junk?

Gravatar Apparently Phil Chapman wants to turn outer space into a capitalist market.

I guess merely messing around with the Earth's climate just isn't enough.

Gravatar By the way, Lloyd, do you have a more credible reference than something from E&E?

Because E&E isn't the place I'd go to to check out a claim, even if it's a claim I may agree with.

Gravatar "..do you have a more credible reference than something from E&E?.."

The journal is not the point, is it? Although it's a well-regarded journal in climatology circles, even if it does not meet your own high standards.

The important thing, surely, is the reference itself. Loehle & McCulloch are respected scientists and their analysis of 2000yrs' global temperature anomalies is highly regarded by climatologists. As far as I know, it has not as yet been seriously challenged.

And it's a great read.

Gravatar "Although it's a well-regarded journal in climatology circles, even if it does not meet your own high standards."

Says who?

Gravatar Look at the list of contributors.

Gravatar What? E&E is a credible publication because the people who write to it think so?

E&E isn't even on ISI's index of journals, which lists 14,000 publications on diverse subjects -- they have a series of criteria for selecting which journals they decide to list.

Are you going to suggest that the ISI index, which is now used by researchers in all subjects all over the world, was created expressly as part of a Great Conspiracy Against Global Warming Skeptics?

Find a more credible source.
