this guy lists my "Cathersis" blog in his unnavigable index under the header "Atheist"...

Well, don't feel too bad, Abbas. I noticed he put Attawie in the US. Not exactly an in depth researcher.

I feel so resentful for some reason, it seems only now that I've finally come to grasps with what happened to....[gasp!] Emigre.

Hmmm...I don't know, Emigre just seemed to go off the deep end. Course maybe that had something to do with Zeyad. *shrug*

Gravatar This isn't an Iraqi thing so much as a bloggers/internet junkies thing thing, people move onto facebook or twitter or just stop caring. Certain kinds of sites are only popular for a few years, or we'd still be looking at each other's crappily done geocities pages. Where's friendster now?

That said I noticed a bunch of blogs I'd never seen before lately, they just don't really give a shit about attracting the audience that a lot of bloggers were talking to in say, 2005-6.

Gravatar Also dude there were definitely just as many godawful boring bloggers then as there are now, I don't know what you're talking about there.

Gravatar Abbas,

One could argue that the decline in the overall quantity and quality of the Iraqi blogosphere had already begun in 2006, but for sure by 2007 the slow descent had started.

A Look Back at Iraq and the Iraqi Blogosphere: 2007.

I agree about Touta. She and Shaggy are still writing entries that are worth reading. Iraq Pundit is also writing from Iraq -- not Jordan, like you -- and reporting almost daily now from Baghdad. I recommend stopping by his place. You can still find a link to him on the Iraqi Bloggers Central sidebar.

Gravatar Maybe Nadia, but there were some decent material still. Now it's all hogwash. My man Shaggy is still lovably in his own universe, of course.

I think I'm annoyed because I seem to view this from a sort of authoritative point of view, those people are boring, but they're dilligent, they want to conquer our realm with their reviews, indexes and awards. I guess it might be somewhat lame on my own part, since i seem to not be that interested anymore (mostly for lack of good content) so if they want it, they can have it. I guess I should lay down the mantle of portraying this semblance of being 'somebody' in the Iraqi blogs and just stick to my own little corner from now on.

Gravatar Its a pity the iraqi blogosphere is becoming a personification of the iraqi nation..

Classic Middle Class Iraqis, hiding behind a curtain of traditions and ignorance. And i'm one of the biggest hypocrites in this sense too. One day iraqis will have enough guts to just plainly speak whats on their mind, though it seems its going to take a while, both cyberly and in real life.

iraqi bloggers gone through the same stages as our beloved homeland...
foreign troops..(jeffrey, rhuslancia)...power struggle (competition of best indexing blog)...resignation of secular leaders (abbas)..

all we need now is a fitna, and hopefully iraqi bloggers can all form gangs with kick-ass names like blogger brigade and wordpress warriors.

Gravatar Touta you're thinking way too much about this.
I used to be a strong proponent of having an active and social blogosphere, but the many disappointments in this regard would lead you to believe that it's less of a 'social thing' with the many negative aspects that comes with that, it's best to just carve your niche and forget about griping and bonding with the other special creatures who are unique cuz they are "iraqi, have a website and write in it"

Gravatar "it's best to just carve your niche and forget about griping and bonding with the other special creatures"

applies to so many social situations aside from blogging.

" Touta you're thinking way too much about this. "

i wouldn't be touta if i didn't.

Gravatar so you you seem to have learnt a new bunch of vocabulary from your resource $%^$# and you are trying to practice here?

Gravatar touta: "foreign troops..(jeffrey, rhuslancia)..."

huh, err, wha? Oh, hello

Well, I've appreciated the Iraqi blogosphere as a way to learn about your attitudes and experiences and for the debates and occaisional brawls.

With Iraq's violence fading (thank God), and news interest shifting to the heretofore "good war" in Afghanistan, plus most of the old schoolers moving away, there just isn't the traffic there used to be.

L'Afghanistan est vissé. Öbama.

Gravatar ...it's best to just carve your niche and forget about griping and bonding with the other special creatures who are unique cuz they are "iraqi, have a website and write in it"

There's nothing wrong in broadening your horizons, Abbas.
