Eli,
The ones who are the real victims here are the Independents.
They now realize that they were manipulated and exploited by the Right for almost three decades. What are the teabaggers really saying and doing now to fellow Republicans that is any different than what Rove did to Democrats?
Conservatives have always been extremists dressed in patriotic garb when they are in reality irresponsible bullies. The secret is out. Palin is the Republican Party ideal...always has been.
It's a lot easier to vote for real change when the lunatics are pushing you in that direction.
If we can actually pass some decent reforms in the coming months and get the economy kick started in the right direction, there will be no other choice left for the Independents. They will want to join us.
The Democratic Party has a big tent and voters are looking for cover. Now that they know the truth about the Republican Party, Independents and moderates will naturally follow the Blue Dogs to our side.
Let's not forget that we need to grow and evolve or we could end up the same way as the GOP. imho, we need to become more progressive in some areas and more flexible in others.
We cannot afford to waste the opportunity being handed to us. The country is depending on us.

It seems like the GNOP is splitting itself into separate groups with the smaller lunatic fringe group screeching the loudest. Hopefully, that will move the rest of the GNOP farther away from that faction and more towards a saner level. I don't know.
I just cannot understand why anyone would want to support any Repug candidates these days after all that party has done to harm America, especially considering the voters were turned off to their failed policies and rhetoric in '06 and '08, and because of all the obstructionism and lying and whining they are doing now.

People want change. If they can't get it, they will vote for the other guy as a protest. We saw it tonight.
If the President can't persuade Reid to move the health care vote along, he's going to be the next victim. Nice guys come in last...right in front of the teabaggers apparently.
We really need to concentrate on recruiting and running better candidates especially in purple states. And they need to be talking up progressive solutions instead of acting Republican lite. If people want a Republican, they can vote for one...except in NY 23?
People want change already...not conservatives and their failed policies. And they especially don't want this ridiculous bi-partisan crap that only causes gridlock and impedes change.
I hope everyone in our party learned a lesson tonight. But knowing how our party leadership (outside of Howard Dean) tends to accept and agree with every lie the other side offers instead of standing by our agenda, I doubt it.
We have the power but our leadership is letting fear of offending someone/anyone stand in our way. Howard Dean needs to run for the Senate. Al Gore needs to run for the Senate. And Hillary should be the Majority Leader.
Even Jesse Ventura pleaded tonight that Democrats must stand for something. What is wrong with being a progressive in at least 3/4 of the country? If we showed a little backbone, we could even win in the South with the right organization and candidates.
People want change.
Obama is listening to Bill Clinton and Rahm when he should be listening to Dean. And can we now have Kaine take up the DNC job full-time since he somehow managed to get a Republican to replace himself as governor?
Month-long vacations, foot-dragging in getting legislation to the floor for a vote, wasting time trying to get a bi-partisan effort from just one senator, and allowing ineffective leaders to create gridlock? We can do better than this.
We better.

Sandy,
You have a point. IMO the only effective leader the Democrats have right now on Capitol Hill is Nancy Pelosi. Reid has been a disaster.

And by the way,
exit poll results from Virginia disprove what they've all been spinning about it being a repudiation of the Obama agenda.
Even while Creigh Deeds was getting blown out, he still managed to narrowly win among voters who cited health care as their main issue (a quarter of all the voters.) So for a guy who was as bad a candidate and lost as big as he did to still win voters who cite health care sounds like an affirmation of the Obama agenda, not a repudiation in any way, shape or form.
Why is it that the MSM don't bother to look any deeper and instead bury themselves in stupid sauce when they rush the news out?

Eli,
The media wants a rumble instead of a consensus. It's a far more exciting programing even though it doesn't really represent reality.
They will be so "surprised" when people for for change again in 2010. They will probably blame it all on swine flu madness or some such lame excuse.
Never mind that they have know all along that the wind is no longer blowing in the conservative direction.
I just hope that our Democratic leadership can get the necessary financial regulations put back into effect soon. When the economy picks again all the new profits need to be re-invested in building new industries and jobs not funding more speculation in the markets.
