Actually, the Detroit-Windsor International Freedom Festival fireworks traditionally take place during the last week of June, which is nice because then many folks can take in the local fireworks shows in their suburban communities for the holiday.
This year, the Detroit-Windsor fireworks were on the 24th of June.
The buildings at the middle-left -- behind the last barge on the left -- are the (Ren-Cen) Renaisance Center, (owned by GM).

This must be a trend. A lot of communities seem to be having their festivities early to fit in with other activities.
Alaska is celebrating their 50 year anniversary as a state. Palin started the fireworks the day before the official ceremony. But then she didn't ride in the parade on the 4th in Juneau...even though she is still the Governor?
Now we all know that Todd doesn't believe in statehood because he belongs to that Alaskan Separtist Party. But none of us (including most Republican Alaskans) realized that Sarah doesn't care much about any state that isn't in the lower 48.
She was for Alaska before she wasn't? Or is that the other way around? I get confused every time she speaks. I guess she will make another statement soon and confuse us all some more?
