You give the neocons entirely too much credit-- suggesting they are competent.
In fact, they only know one note to play-- using threats and intimidation, and once our bluff is called (as it was by Putin, as it has been by Ahmadinejad) they have no arrows left in the quiver to back it up with, what with our army already overextended and fighting two wars.
Hence they are left with no fallback option other than whining about how the Russian actions 'will harm future relations' (and from an administration whose future lasts less than six months.)
No way am I suggesting there is competence with those people... unless you count their ability to get themselves into power, select bungling buffoons as their leaders, f#$& up everything they get their hands on, screw over people, and stuff their pockets.

so it turns out that mcsame was not in a cone of silence while obama was being questioned by the religious fanatic last night. mcsame misunderstoodiated and thought he was supposed it be in a car full of cone heads...and so he had all the dunces from the bush white house with him in their dunce cones...

What gets me is that McCain is clearly playing politics, making noises at the Russians, when in fact even if he is elected he won't have any real options, any more than Bush has.
We had a big stick, but Bush tried to use it on a puddle of quicksand (Iraq), and instead of trying to get it out again, he just kept shoving it in farther. So now everyone is laughing at us, in between thumbing their nose at us.
