Well, one of our regular readers is from Oregon, but we like him and wouldn't cross him.
Mark Knopfler and Dire Straits are my two faves. I don't find any of the songs you mention particularly depressing. Private Investigations never did much for me but the other three are excellent, particularly "live" as on their "On The Night" DVD.

Romeo and Juliet? Brothers in Arms? No no, make it stop! So depressing you might have to listen to a little Celine Dion to get over it. Oh wait. That might actually make it worse. Maybe get out of the house for a bit.
