I've had it up to here with the excuses. Given the scope of the harm done to civilians, it's hard for me to sympathize with the perpetrators of the harm - regardless of whether or not they're going through a rough patch.

I think there is something to the argument that some troops in Iraq are stressed mentally to the point of breaking. I heard a report recently that troops showing signs of mental breakdown are not being removed from duty in Iraq. This is an unconscionable failure of responsibility on the part of high ranking officers and DOD officials. Rumsfeld said the buck stops with him. Well, he should be bucked right out of his job!

The top marine general, Gen. Michael Hagee said "Many of our Marines have been involved in life-or-death combat or have witnessed the loss of their fellow Marines, and the effects of these events can be numbing."
What about Iraqis, they are under much more stress. Iraqis lives are so cheep to them. I honestly can't take it anymore. US troops seem to be able to get away with anything in Iraq. What is Maliki and his government going to do about this? When will they demand that the troops terror must stop, take away the immunity they have in Iraq, kick them out?
As for that Taheri, if any politician or media ever use him as a reference they will discredit themselves big time. But I guess he did what he was suppose to do, see to it that the nazi iranian link came out just with Olmet's visit to the US.

"Does this mean that Amir Taheri, the Iran "expert" who was the source for the story and who stuck to his guns despite being proven a liar, will be out of a job?"
Nope. I today read that he met with Bush other day as and "expert" of Iraq to give his opinon of how to move forward.

Re: national post debacle...
It's so sad. because regardless of their apology, it has had its effect. CNN and FOX do this all the time...break a big 'piece' first and then worry about authenticity afterwards. it's absolutely disgusting.

Actually, "the buck stops here" belongs on bush's desk. It originated with Harry Truman and he believed every word of it. bush thinks it's a joke, I'm sure. I am keeping my fingers crossed that no harm comes to Iran because of the idiots in the White House (shameful bunch).
