I think that Israel has made a huge mistake in re-invading Gaza. This will only further harden the hearts of Palestinians and push them deeper into the arms of the Hamas fundamentalists. I thought things were starting to look up with Abbas meeting with Olmert, and Abbas calling for a referendum on recognizing Israel and creating a Palestinian State. It was my understanding that the referendum would pass by a wide margin. No doubt Hamas greatly feared the referendum, as it would nullify its central tenent on the destruction of Israel. There is certainly blame to be shared by Hamas for this current crisis! I am very discouraged!
Regarding the Armenian Holocaust, I don't understand why Turkey is so reluctant to admit what happened? How can owning up to the truth harm Turkey or Turkish people? Along similar lines, Japan has never fully accepted responsibility for its horrible crimes against China and Korea during WWII, either.

It's not that Japan has never 'accepted' its actions in the Pacific...it's that they still practically celebrate them. Imagine if a German PM routinely visited a shrine to Hitler and you can understand why the Asian nations invaded by Japan in World War II get so upset.
I'm not as familiar with the situation in Turkey.

They are just claiming that it did not happen. If it is mentioned at all (at schools I suppose) the Turkish action is justified like regular action in a war. Genocide? Where? We?! No!!
Well, they will have to set their facts straight before being admitted into the EU - if they get admitted, but that's another story, which is sadly connected to one of our political parties.
