Sorry I had to comment here, but your rant about the south cought my attention.
I am from the south, Arkansas actually. I am also a straight, conservative, somewhat-republican, evangelical christian.
Your comments more than offended me, they hurt me. I have difficulty articulating the feelings experienced while reading your description of a place I hold so dear. The only analogy is to compare it to the cool kids making fun of and then beating up your younger and intellectually slower brother.
I know that the south is "backward" in some areas, but that does not necessarily relate to the values that are held here.
You are probably not interested in reading this belated response, so I will end it before I voice all my opinion. Suffice to say, I hope you get a chance one day to truly experience the south and enjoy the good qualities that are hidden behind a rough/unfamiliar exterior.
I'm afraid I have no idea what you're talking about. I don't recall ever writing a rant about the south, but with 400+ blog entries under my belt, I could easily have forgotten a bunch of what I've posted here.
If I did use some reference to the south as a metaphor for the evils of red-state, fundamentalist-mandated homophobia, I will most likely stand by my words. But let me know exactly what offended you and I'll definitely give it some thought.

I have absolutely no idea why Jake should feel compelled in the slightest way to pander toward your obviously tender sensibilities.
If you hadn't noticed, his blog isn't exactly geared to appeal toward your type, nor does he typically use this as a platform to unnecessarily bash or redicule people like you.
I have no idea what your motives here are, but I suggest that if you are going to take needless offense and feign personal injury that you take your blog reading elsewhere rather than impose yourself here.

Your comment was directed more toward the "red" states. Not the south specifically.
To the gentleman who refered to me as having "obviously tender sensibilities" I have to state that I am rarely offended. In fact most things just slide off my back. There were comments made that I viewed as literal when now, after explanation, seem to be hyperbole.
