Gravatar Very cool! And this helps me understand the strong connection of old families from Chicago in Santa Barbara. Because, in addition, Santa Barbara became the silent film capital of the world in the 1910s. (There were 13 studios in this little town, at one point.) And it seems many of those studios have Chicago roots. In addition to Charlie Chaplin being kind of legend around here. Of course, this claim to fame didn't last too long, as we all know everyone headed south to Los Angeles.

Another quirky little "small world" thing: Both my parents grew up in Niles, California. And I remember as a kid, always hearing from both of them about "this is where the movie studios were..." and I sighed, and wished were at Universal Studios with the mechanical Jaws thing or something instead of looking at some old building. Funny, as a western state-born kid, it's funny how Chicago's influence is everywhere in my own history.

Gravatar What is the building now? Has it been transformed into condos or does it house a commercial biz? Or is sitting empty?
