Gravatar Yeesh. That was a scary one...

Glad you're doing well.

And pls keep us updated on your status.

And so glad you have the fiance to take care of...

Gravatar Holy crap! Can't you just have a lazy Sunday like everyone else? Thank goodness it was nothing fatal! But just how hard were you dancing Saturday night to tear a muscle or crack a rib?

It's nice to see you give 150% when you perform. And that you have a fantabulous man to take care of you.

Gravatar Geez I was already browsing for another regular blog to read....

Just Teasing, Glad you ok :o)

Take it easy and 'Rest.In.Peace'

Gravatar Good heavens, Jake! Reading the first few grafs of that nearly gave me a little infarction. Glad to hear you're on the mend!

Gravatar Oh, Jake. And thank God, Whom I know you don't believe in, but I do, so . . . you know?

My father once told me that I would clown on the way to the chair, and I suppose the same is true for you --- while I read this my heart was in my mouth AND I was snickering. There's a combination you don't get to experience every day!

May your recovery be swift and painless, and congrats on having found the guy worth recovering for. If there is any good to come out of this wretched situation, it may be that you now know how much you are loved.

Simon

Ask for Percodan. It's the buzz that keeps on giving.

Gravatar I'm super glad they ruled out all the fatal stuff, and I snort-laughed at my desk at the "aiming your buick into a pee cup" comment. Feel better soon, and keep us updated!

Gravatar your writing is top notch, even in the face of death and drug induced delirium

Gravatar Glad to hear you'e not going to die. After all we need to see that pre-scruff shaving picture.

My mom used to be a truama nurse and you'd be surprised at the lengths people will go to in order to get drugs (faking all kinds of illnesses, swallowing sh*t like batteries, or pretending to be unconscious...but they had ways of weeding out the crazies)

Gravatar Well if that was your long-and-boring mode, you're hyper-and-happy mode might kill me...

Glad that you 1) have someone to take care of you 2) have fun drugs 3) have nothing deadly wrong with you.

Gravatar glad to hear you're okay . . . the "lost baby" comment made me LAUGH!

Gravatar The things you won't do to put a picture of your nekked chest on the blog.

Hope you are resting and recovering.

Gravatar Don't worry, sweetie. If you die, I will come to your funeral and sob and wail and make a scene. And I may possible wear a black dress with an Alexis Colby hat-and-veil combo. They will be talking about your funeral for months.

Seriously, I'm glad you're OK. When I started reading, I thought, Holy Fucking Shit one of my friends had a heart attack when did we get this old. Thank GOD it was just a cracked rib.

Enjoy the painkillers and the TiVo. That's a winning combo in my book.

xoxo

Gravatar I'm sorry - I don't self-promote my own blog much, but the weirdness of your post and mine today is just too odd. Ditto w/my pictures.

Gravatar Wow! You will not top that story for a while. Good to hear the sirens were false alarms. Stay well. ChristopherYVR

Gravatar HONEY! I'm so glad you're okay. You did exactly the right thing - ALWAYS get that stuff checked out. Better to be nothing than to be something, you know?

Feel better, please!

Gravatar What a frightening experience! I am glad that you are doing better and that serious problems have been ruled out. Continue to take care of yourself.

Gravatar Wow. Scary stuff. I kept thinking "I hope he makes it!" before realizing that you'd written the piece so therefore you did indeed survive. Good thing, too...

I'm glad the finace is around to watch over you and you're feeling better.

Best,
-C

Gravatar You keep giving your readers surprises like this, and we'll all be in the ICU!

Seriously, you did the right thing. And it sounds like your fiance's brother handled the situation very well. He should be congratulated for staying fairly calm through a scary situation.

Hope you feel better soon, and enjoy the Vicodin!

Gravatar And I was just about to 'nudge' you in scrabulous. Glad you have a good excuse. Get better!

Gravatar Quelle Dramatique!

Seriously, those Broadway showtunes are hazardous to your health. Please stop immediately. Maybe switch to a little Mariah or some other benign song.

Gravatar Real injury or just trying to upstage the transexual man married to a woman and carrying their baby that was created via artificial insemination with a syringe and some other guy's sperm? I don't think your baby aspirin and two blood droplets are going to do the trick.

Seriously though, I'm glad it isn't anything more serious.

And is the fiance a super hero or something? He's always "out of town." Is that code for "in the Bat cave"?

Gravatar Love your work!

Identifying madly - had a similar experience myself.

Certainly puts life and your most loved into perspective. Use it to get the right priorities on life - and to enjoy the drugs.

Thank god [who I too don't believe in] that your still with us.

Gravatar whew. glad it was NOT a heart attack! get better soon!

sending you big aloha from the big island!

Gravatar Glad to hear you're alright... some complete strangers from overseas are wishing you a complete and speedy recovery!

Gravatar I forgot to say - glad you're feeling better!

Gravatar I'm glad you're doing better Jake. Thank goodness it was nothing life threatening, I know it had to give you quite a scare. Get lots of rest & I'm sure you'll be up to your regular antics in no time.

Gravatar **speedy and pain-free recovery vibes**

And thanks for the beauty of your writing, even in the midst of all of that.

Gravatar Wow - I was tied up with family stuff all weekend and only saw all the details of this now. So glad you are OK. Can't even imagine how terrifying this experience must have been for you. Just take it easy and rest up. If you need anything, let me know! xo

Gravatar OMG, thank goodness you're okay! I would've been scared out of my damn mind. Feel better soon!

Gravatar jake.

so glad you are ok....i've had two similar experiences but both time I was crazy enough to call a cab and go to Northwestern. Once I had pulled the muscle from my sternum and another time and bruised rib...(neither from rough sex, darn it!)...but good to get it checked out.

sending you healing thoughts -- if I had seen the ambulance coming and paramedics I would have run across traffic to ride in the back with you.

so...missed the show this weekend...what were the numbers like that caused such an injury?

E>

Gravatar Obviously you must never shave again.

Gravatar Praise whatever gods you choose, I'm glad you're okay. I can't even imagine how scary this would be.

Now, I have to slap you a bit. Let's hope there's never a "next time," but call 911 BEFORE ask-a-nurse. That is how people die.

And lastly, how does one tear a muscle or fracture a rib and not know it?

I hope you feel fabulous ASAP.

Gravatar I'm relieved (though undoubtedly not as relieved as you) to hear you're going to be fine. Enjoy every milligram of that Vicodin.

Gravatar Jeezus, Jake! Don't do that.

I've actually pulled muscles around the ribs. The paint isn't quite as bad as, say, a root canal or migraine or labor... but it's close. I hope it's something that simple.

Now, get well.

Gravatar Holy cripes... that's a scary tale. Thank goodness you had your cameraphone to record it all. Such a blogger, you are.

Seriously though, I'm glad you're okay. We giggle at the old commercials of elderly folk crying out "I'm having chest pains!" but when it happens to us in reality, it's not funny at all! Get rest, stay put and get better. Whatever it is will hopefully heal itself in good time.

Gravatar Yikes! Glad to hear that you're okay.

Don't scare us like that!

Gravatar Thank goodness you're okay (and that you had the presence of mind to document the entire ordeal with your camera phone).

Big hugs and best wishes for a speedy recovery!

Gravatar Dearest Jake,

In Spain we say "You can NEVER kill weeds!" Somewhat lost in translation it means you will never die... at most you will eventually fade into the sunset!

Though I've never had the honor of meeting you in person, I know I'm in good company along with all those in here who dearly love you. Your humor - even in the middle of such drama! - is utterly uplifting.

Thanks for moving me to tears with the scene where "the fiancé" comes home and - by the way - for the "thanks" on 3/03!

Cheers!

Gravatar Wow. Each day we must tell the ones we love that we love them and how much. It could easily be the last. I'm glad you're okay!!! sniff-sniff

Gravatar I'm glad you're okay, Sweetknees.

Gravatar Jeez!! The lengths you'll go to, to get out of finishing that hallway!

I'm glad you're okay and on your way to a full recovery. Feel better soon!

Gravatar Someone has let the chest hair grow back since his Totally Gay Cruise.

Gravatar As you may or may not know, I actually did suffer a heart attack and wrote about it on my blog (August 2005) although not nearly as eloquently as you have here. But while reading yours, I was reminded all too well of the emotions, fears, and the million thoughts that go through your head before you actually know what's going on. It's amazing the people you think of.

I'm glad it's not as serious as you thought. And even if it had been, I'm sure you would have persevered. I did. It's tough, but what's on the other side of the healing is so worth the fight.

Gravatar When I saw the pic of the drops of blood and before I read your comments about the pic, I thought, "either he had a baby or it's that time of the month."

Glad you're OK. I'm sure that was frightening.

Gravatar Jesus H. Christ!

Gravatar Phew! I can stop holding my breath.

1 Comment : On close examination of the photo of your chest; it seems that more than half of the stickers aren't connected to machines. Looks like the ER doc was having way to much fun sticking things on your bod...

Gravatar Jesus Christ, Jake. I'm thankful you're OK. Must have been a traumatic experience. Wow. What's the recovery time on your rib situation?

Love,
Jeff

Gravatar Nice pecs! What's your workout? Please share. I'm a washboard; will always be a washboard; and if I ever break a buck fifty, I'll be accused of juicing.

Glad to hear you're near miss was farther than that. Also good to see NYC is good to see, and be seen in.

Keep on keepin' on. -a.t.

Gravatar 1. The "flatline" on your monitor was most likely your respiration counter. It is designed to be used with a 5-lead cardiac setup, whereas you only had a 3-lead setup. That would go a long way toward explaining why it wasn't working properly.

2. I assume that your heart rhythm was funky because you were moving around to get take the picture of the monitor. Otherwise, you should talk to your doctor about treatments for Atrial Fibrillation. I'm just saying.

3. It would appear that you got the luxury suite. The ER I work at would have turned your palace into at least 4 exam rooms.

4. Whoever set up your EKG (those little black tabs) needs to go back and be retrained in lead placement. At least three are missing (you may have taken them off) and at least two are misplaced. Not enough to really throw the results, but just enough that I would be annoyed when I walked into the room after one of my techs had done this EKG.

5. The reason that the medics went from emergency pace to sludge speed is because Nitro opens up the vessels in your heart and if your problem is occlusion of a blood vessel, you would very likely get relief from Nitro.

6. Don't blow off the suggestion that you probably got from the ER Doc to follow up with your Doctor. It may not have been a cardiac problem that you were having, but it is still possible.

7. Don't complain about a 6 hour ER visit. Many people wait 6 hours just to come back from the waiting room. Many other people with chest pain stay 18 or more hours to monitor specific cardiac labs that are common in heart attacks.

8. I was just going to comment really quickly to tell you about the respiratory lead on the monitor. Sorry to use up so much bandwidth.
