Gravatar Kudos to you for recognizing what was best for him! And bigger kudos to him in being mature enough to acknowledge and accept that he's not ready!

Great job, Mom!

Gravatar Hey, I've always thought that Americans send the kids off to college too early. In most European countries, the kid have a "gap" year. We should adopt that system.

Gravatar I don't know how I'll react when my daughter wants to go off to college. I'm glad you were able to see that your son wasn't ready, and that he wouldn't do well. And I'm so impressed that he saw it too and was relieved when you talked with him.

Gravatar We have two sons that attended college near home. The first was the hardest since we hadn't been broken in yet. We don't think sending an 18 or so year old off to a college environment is the best circumstance so we started him off at a college near home and within commute distance where he got a lot of his core classes that he later transferred to his chosen school. He had a little more maturity and confidence and then lived in a condo off campus. He graduated from Georgia Tech with a degree in civil engineering. I highly recommend that process.
