Huh? If you read the NYT article, Exelon, who owns the nuke and is a major fundraiser for Obama, re-wrote the legislation and took the teeth out of it. Furthermore, it is still languishing in the Senate, where it may never leave. Why is this a good sign that Obama won't cave to the monied interests at the expense of the local folks?

Gravatar Senator Obama introduced legislation to aggressively address this problem. More so than any other senator. We see that as a good thing. He worked to get it passed out of the Environment & Public Works Committee. Another very good thing. He reintroduced the legislation to address the situation. Another very good thing. We believe the notification provisions are adequate to protect the health of the public.

Gravatar Beyond that, the notification provisions go far beyond the existing regulatory requirements of the NRC. Does that mean that the NRC caves to monied interests? The legislation is being crafted in the interests of the local citizens, and with a common sense approach that holds the utility accountable for living up to it's operating license - to ensure that the health and safety of the public is not threatened by commercial operation.

Gravatar As Obama said in one of the debates - nobody's hands in politics are clean. So what if he took a large amount of money from the nuclear utility Exelon. You receive a little and you give a little, that's the way it works here and that's the way it will work if he's president. People who whine about special interest donations just don't know how the system works. Sure, most everybody gets left out of the game but how do you think politicians get where they are?! Obama represents the nuclear industry and each will deliver for the other,so just used to it.
