Just because its safe for one person doesnt make it safe for the general public. You article is ignorant and a slap in the face to the people that have been affected by this medication.

Clearly you did not read the article or the reports on Singulair. It is not unreasonable to conclude that the 3 suicides out of 31 million Singulair users were due to other reasons. Moreover, if you are going to use such a stat to come to a negative conclusion, then by your logic, my singular case should also be significant to you as well.
You simply wanted to insult. And you were successful at that. You failed to make your case though. We will leave your post up because it is instructional.

While this drug may work well for some it has caused unmeasurable sufferering for MANY...not just "a few".
Educate yourself by going to http://www.medications.com/se/singulair and read the horror stories for yourself.
Look into the eyes of my son and tell him how wonderful this drug is. Your article is so beyond ridiculous I don't even know why I'm posting this. What a joke you are.
Let's see how you feel in 9 months when the FDA concludes it's investigation of Merck.
Do you work for Merck or something?

Ad hominem does not advance your argument. Usually it shows desperation. Regardless, let me say I wish nothing but health for your son and understand your pain and anger at any suffering he experiences. Singulair helps my asthmatic son.
I do not work for Merck nor are we funded by Merck. We do agree with the ACLU though that money is speech.
I went through the comments on the website and found the anecdotes interesting but found no compelling evidence to prove that Singulair causes suicide. Many of the people on the site had confounding variables including brain tumors and were taking multiple medications. The Chinese study of the basic operation of Singulair as a cysteinyl leukotriene receptor blocker was interesting, but again, it did not establish that the action of Singulair causes suicides. If anything it pointed out that if there are other underlying conditions, such as tumors or injury, then the leukotriene blocker might have some unpredictable effect. But that could be said about medication. Again, the website has interesting stories but clinical trials appear to refute your contention. And a few cases out of the many millions benefitting from Singulair completely contradicts your case. Good luck with your son.

We can agree to disagree. The next 9 months will be interesting and I'll be sure to contact you again when all is said and done. My son is fine now that he's off Singulair so that's all that counts for me. Keep a VERY close watch on your son for behavioral issues. Best regards.

Moreover, it is not just suicidality that concerns me. It's the severe phsychological and behavioral issues that this drug CAN cause and HAS caused. Time will be the bearer of truth.

Well the FDA did not list severe psychological and behavioral problems in its trials. Of course if a problem is found with Singulair, I will be the first to say remove it. But out of 31 million users and my own experience leads me to believe it is a very beneficial drug. My son hasn't exhibited any negative reactions from its use so our experiences are the exact opposite of those of your son.

So as this story continues to unfold Merck has added the following to it's ever growing list of possible side effects:
behavior and mood related changes [agitation including aggressive behavior, bad/vivid dreams,
depression, feeling anxious, hallucinations (seeing things that are not there), irritability,
restlessness, suicidal thoughts and actions (including suicide), tremor, trouble sleeping]
My argument becomes stronger by the day. Now the real problem is holding physicians accountable for what they prescribe. The should be forced to divulge this information to EVERY patient they prescribe Singulair to yet they don't. We will also see that change shortly.
