I agree that branding is NOT a position or what you TELL people you are (or the value of your service, your product, your business) -- a brand is your authentic attributes.

There is a SHIFT. Gone are the days when branding is all about position (although some marketing practitioners would still have you believe that). Brand is now synonymous with reputation. And, that is still vital to any business (either digital or analog).

People need to sample your character and competence before they do business with you. Sometimes that "sampling" comes from a third party testimonial and sometimes its more direct. Either way, what you EXPRESS and EXUDE is your brand.
