Gravatar LMAO!! William, I'll bet those next few moments of calm and quiet were the best treatment she could've gotten.

If it's any consolation, I had the...er...dubious pleasure of transporting a real knucklehead last week. When we showed up, the nurse AND security both gave us a "thank God you're here!"

Way to stand your ground. Keep the faith, fight the good fight.

Gravatar Thanks, Armed. I don't cut any slack for people who want to try to cheat the system. Triage works. I have unstrapped known malingerers from the gurneys and marched them straight into the triage area when they tried to cheat their way into the front of the line by calling 911 and getting an aid car to transport them, which would usually get them a room right away. I've done this more than a few times. We still get them on occasion, but word travels.

Gravatar You probably gave that Grandmother the only relief she has had from those selfish nitwits in years. Patients are in good hands with NurseWilliam. It's nice to hear that someone can enforce the regulations with compassion and fairness.

Gravatar The first thing that came to my mind was, "OY!"
Oh William, I wish I had half your patience with ignorance.
Your lil sis,
Harms

Gravatar Harms! How are you, darling!

See, the problem is that somewhere in the past an ER nurse probably allowed them to do what they did, "just to be nice". And with people who make a lifestyle out of taking advantage of others, that's all the invitation they need to start sucking the life out of people.

But because of my position, I have an obligation to not allow that kind of behavior, because it robs the patient of my time and effort. People who do thta sort of thing just tick me off. So I find it a source of great pleasure to tell these people "no."

Gravatar Oh William, I think you must have the patients of Jobe. I would have been tempted to beat the crap out of Mommy Dearest. Good grief!

MJ

Gravatar You know, Motherjones, as a general rule we never allow more than one or two family members into the treatment room. However, if there are children, we try to go easy on people if possible unless the patient is really, really sick or we have to perform interventions that would not be appropriate for children to see. In this case, I guess I was patient up until the time that the parents revealed their motives for bringing the kids along.

Seems to me that the daughter did not give dang number one for thepatient, hwo happened to be her mom. And yes, the family was living in Mom's house.

Gravatar Yep, that mom was what is known in the biz as an "energy vampire".

One always comes away from such interactions feeling sooo depleted.

She was using her mom, and trying to use you. They are ALWAYS victims of circumstance, it is NEVER their fault.

So glad you put an end to it.

Strength and "in yer face" is all they understand.

They will use you until they use you up. What bullies!!

Gravatar Hi, Thanks for the kind words regarding my previous comment. They remind me of the family that tortured the Tigger, possibly to sue. I don't get why this country has become such a large precentage of grabbers. Then they teach their kids to be grabbers, too. Why do parents want their children to grow up with such a lousy mentality? Anyway, another great post.

Gravatar AND....the horrible thing is they reproduce with such venom.

Gravatar Yes Darwin's theory will never work because they breed like rabbits

Gravatar LIttle Satchel was simply taking after his naughty mom and dad. They're sassy---he's sassy. Too bad he doesn't have better role models.
And generally speaking, people are too wedded to their cell phones in places they shouldn't be. We REALLY DON'T want to hear your conversations, y'all!

Gravatar Damn. and here I thought my life was rough... You ever thought about working for a magazine? or writing a book? this stuff is excellent!
