I have a very good friend who is a nursing instructor in Portland. When nursing classes weren't called off due to the weather, my friend called all of her students and told them to stay home. My friend's boss gave her hell for telling the students not to report to class. I can't believe some people can be so stupid, but then again, I can.

I lived in upstate NY for years and drove regularly in blizzards but I have never driven on worse roads than I have in your state. Write to your governor and tell him to invest in some sand for God Sake. LOL. I drove from Long Beach to Seattle one January on a solid sheet of ice. The sander truck had spread a little spritz on the corners but nowhere else.
How right you are. We were out in our chained up 4 wheel drive trying to help a family in a van stuck on a nortorious steep, curvy and shady hill named, aptly enough, Forest Canyon. We were struggling a bit even for our truck when I looked in the mirror and noticed the wheels on the van we were towing were cranked hard right. When we went back to tell them to straighten out the wheels, we found out they had it in PARK! {sigh}

Wow, ice is bad news...I bet they thought that 4 wheel drive and anti-lock brakes would save them...physics prevails again.
Living in northeast Ohio in the "snow Belt" we usually drive in snow from Dec.till May?? Only was out of work for weather 2 times in 25 years and spent time on a cot in the office one night.
