Gravatar Thanks, Rags. God bless you.

Gravatar Wow!!!

Never in my entire career as a software person did I ever feel I made a real difference in someone's life. You and your team changed the life of this woman, her baby and her parents.

Wow!!!!

Gravatar Just when I have nearly lost faith in the "human" part of humanity, something like this comes around. Thanks so much for sharing it and doing what you do!

Gravatar Thanks .. I needed that. I've let myself start feeling burned out ... but realize I've stopped letting myself feel in general ... it is amazing how much more this job makes sense when I remember the Calling! You made a difference for her, for me...and for my patients!

Gravatar As an RN in a paediatric emergency department, I often feel frustrated by those who come in with complaints that are not "emergencies" by any stretch of the imagination. What I try to tell myself time and again is that each person's definition of "emergency" is going to be unique. You have beautifully articulated a wonderful example of an ER visit that wouldn't be viewed as an emergency to most people, but it certainly was to that young woman, at that particular time. Thank you for sharing this story. I'm sure that your care meant the world to that woman and her family. When I go in to work tomorrow, I will be taking with me a renewed sense of compassion and understanding. Thanks!

As a new reader of your blog, I just wanted to tell you how much I enjoy it and appreciate you sharing your experiences. I look forward to each new post. Take care.

P.S. Aren't social workers amazing?? We absolutely *LOVE* the one in our ER!!

Gravatar This is exactly what I needed to read. I'm a burned out student sick of hearing nurses complain about how burned out THEY are; I so needed to read something about how nurses really can make a difference (why I wanted to become one to begin with). Thanks for sharing!

Gravatar Dude, that was beautiful. That was true Christianity in action.

Gravatar This is a wonderful story. It is definitely what the Lord had in mind with the parable of the Good Samaritan. Thanks for writing about it.

Gravatar What can I say that hasn't already been said? Maybe, "You never cease to amaze me, Wil."
Big Hugs,
Harmony AKA Rags777's daughter

Gravatar You're not a nurse. You're an angel. and this one's going to be linked, in posting on my blog.

Awesome.

Gravatar Thanks, everyone, for your kind words. But really- the whole reason for my becoming a nurse in the first place was simply because God wanted me to. The more I do this, the more I realize that this is what I was created to do. When you find that thing that God made you to do and start to do it, it lights you up.

I'm not an angel. I'm just a sinner saved by God's grace, and as fallible as anyone else.

Gravatar Amen.
You in your ER scrubs personified the essence of nursing & healthcare, and the results were phenomenal.
Please consider submitting this story to the "Chicken Soup" people for publication. Your story is inspiring and should be shared widely.

Peggy, RN in Ohio

Gravatar Definitely.

Gravatar That's what nursing is all about. Thank you for sharing your story. I've been hit with the nursing burn out, but this gives me hope again.

Gravatar This was a GREAT post---I got tears in my eyes reading it. Thank God for you, Nurse William...

Gravatar I'm tagging you for a meme....enjoy!

Gravatar I love SW they make any situation better. The SWs I work with "live" across the hall from me at work. They are a wonderful resource and make a great cup of coffee, too!

You did a great job of taking care of your patient. I sure hope you remember this young lady as one of your "successes." God bless you!!

Gravatar You are an angel, my dear. Thank God that you were there for this girl, and that you and your ER team were able to help her.

MJ

Gravatar That is a beautiful story. I'm glad you shared it.

Gravatar Oh, Well my lecturer pointed me to this site when I posted an article about critical thinking and it is almost exact word for word on what you've posted on this site! This is the strangest thing I've ever come across! of course I had used an old lecture notes and never heard of this site before!

Gravatar Nurse William, you are wonderful.
It makes me so happy to see that there are true Christians left in this world--something I am saddened to say I don't see too often.
That woman will remember you for a long time to come, and I am so glad you could make that difference in her life.

Gravatar KLK, if I may ask, who is your lecturer, and how did he/she know about my blog?

Gravatar Excuse me- I meant Sade in my last post.

Gravatar I'm a social work major, working to try to become a medical sociall worker. This is a really beautiful story. Youu sound likeyou'd be a great colleague in the healing professions. Thanks for taking such great care of herr!

Gravatar It's raining here in the UK, and now you've bought a tear to my cynical old heart. If there is a flood I hold you responsible...
Good job.
Max.

Gravatar I so love SWs. I too have had them literally pull stuff out of their pockets for the pts. They are like the yellow pages of life. I now work in home health and most times I do ask for a MSW eval.I work with a guy who goes that extra mile too and the pts. love him so much! Me too!

Gravatar God bless good social workers. We had the best. Knew when to love 'em - knew when to scold 'em - knew when to call their bluff. She could read them like a book. Pulled all sorts of resources out of thin air...and knew how to work the broken system.
But our hospital system abused her instead of using her - she left and came back once cause she wanted to believe the lies they told her. But she left for good shortly after that. And we are hurting and missing her. Now we have one without experience and who is jsut doing a "job" and putting in her hours for pay...Like nursing, it is a thankless job but when you get a good one - cherish her (or him!)!!!
