Gravatar All in a day's work, huh?

Gravatar Seems like Otis was the noisiest person on the unit.

Great description of your MI work. I've always wondered how that happens.
Bradycardia really sucks...sounds like that guy kept his sense of humor for a while, anyway.

Gravatar "skinned banshee with a pitchfork up its arse"

Great story, that line cracked me up!

Gravatar I'm so glad you're back! I loooove reading your stories! I'm an old L&D nurse (well, maybe not that old . Nothing more fun than swaping stories. Was sitting with some colleagues today who were talking about the trauma center in LA and the "stop and push out the door" method of taking a person to the ER with lead induced trauma. Whoa! Now that you are writing again, your site is at the top of my recommendations.

Gravatar At least your patient was civil enough to come in early so you could get off shift at normal time!

We try to call report in 12 minutes out.
Sometimes we get it done, sometimes we don't. From altitude we can hear other calls on "Mercy" from 50 miles away and have to wait for them to complete their call before giving ours. Other times the receiving hospital has gotten tired of the "noise" on the radio and has simply turned the volume down. We have to ask our dispatchers to give them a land-line and ask to turn the volume back up.

Thanks for the insight into what happens while we are zipping the patient to you, and thanks for keeping that patient from meeting Jim
Fixx.

Gravatar Hey! Welcome back! We were all worried about you. Hope that things are going well.

Gravatar (Why medics choose to wait until they are only five minutes away to tell us they are enroute with a super-sick patient is a perpetual mystery to us.)

We do this for a couple of reasons...

1) Because we are too freaking busy taking vitals, establishing a baseline, attempting IV access, etc in the back of a moving truck, and that takes time. Five minutes out is often the soonest we have a chance to call.

2) Because 95% of the time, when we do have an opportunity to call earlier, the Unit Secretary/ Charge Nurse/ whoever answers the phone gives us the audible eye-roll and sigh-of-exasperation when we tell them that we will not be arriving for another 10 or 15 minutes.

Gravatar Good to see you back!

Gravatar Good to see you back posting again. Continue!

Gravatar Hey, NW;

I hope you don't mind my reposting your comment here. If you do, pardon my faux pas.

FWIW, medics in my municipality have a direct line to the MDs. It has a unique ringtone, and the MDs HAVE to answer it. If they don't the Charge RN MUST answer it and relay the report to an MD pronto.

WOW! That must be nice. Of course, Indy isn't nearly Seattle. I know; I lived in Seattle, Lynnwood/Edmonds, and Carnation. It's a whole different world out there, bro.

Sure, I should have said something to qualify that statement rather than to paint all EMS services with a broad brush. Sorry about that. But certain EMS units in my area are notorious for giving short notice- some even arrive unannounced. But I see your point, and I hope you accept my apology.

Apology?! None needed. Princess Terry is an ER Charge, and I know (firsthand and second-hand) what stubborn boneheaded asses we can be.

Gravatar Do you want to give your patients the ability to pay via the web? How about setting automated recurring payment plans so you are not chasing “false promises”?
We will develop a bill payment system via the web:
• allows customers to pay their bills using credit card, debit card or check
• allows customer or your staff to schedule a single payment and/or recurring
• may be customized to automatically update the patient record in the PMS

Gravatar Don't know you, but I love you for being so humorous...you must make everyone around you happy.

Gravatar This is really a well laid out website. I like how you have presented the information in full detail. Keep up the great work and please stop by my site sometime. The url is http://healthy-nutrition- facts.b...ts.blogspot.com

Gravatar Five months without an update? Another dead blog. Too bad, you were one of my faves. I guess I'll unbookmark you now.

Gravatar Hey William,

My name is Zack Middleton, Assistant Operations Manager for the U.S. Concealed Carry Association. I'm currently putting together a new product for our members that will be all about first aid. As Concealed carriers we want them to be ready in the event that they or someone around them, is injured

I'm hoping to make something like a very small book with chapters about the different subjects I would like to cover. (Each chapter being 1-2 pages maybe.)

I would like to have trained medical professionals write these for me, to give credibility to the product. I will pay fairly for these services, and include your full bio and blog in the product.

If you're interested, or perhaps know anyone else who is interested let me know, I'm hoping to have this done by September 15th. Thank you very much for your time.

You can contact me at zack@usconcealedcarry.com

Thanks again,
Zack

Gravatar 6 months no update.
This blog is dead.

Gravatar 6 months still no update
Me thinks William is no longer with us. Perhaps he was captured by a dozen maurading swine to assist in the spread of thier flu.
