Gravatar state of the union was put together by Elliot Sharp. He did another one, a double CD sometime in the mid/late 90s. Pulsallama was Ann Magnuson and friends. All those bands have better produced stuff which is more likely the source then the Noise Fest tapes. Wait and see, I guess...they're already planning volume 3.

Gravatar you're right it was Sharp, not Frith. What's your take on State of the Union? Some of the tracks are great, some are unbearable, and all of them short.

hey why's Alldisco shuttering?

Gravatar Hi Miguel-

Steve from Audika here. I hope the AR interest remains as I'm just finishing up on a years worth of work with the next release, FIRST THOUGHT BEST THOUGHT. It's a 2 CD compilation of all of Arthur's instrumental and orchestral music, and will include the previously unreleased "Instrumentals" Vol. 1, "Instrumentals" Vol. 2 (with the second side mastered at the correct speed, Tower Of Meaning, and two previously unreleased compositions, Reach One, and Sketch for the Face of Helen (not the version that was on Fruit Of The Original Sin, this one shares only the same name but is totally different). If I can get the artwork done in the next week, I'll have it out in February. And yes, the DFA is remixing a previously unreleased electro track called Springfield, which I'll release in the....spring. It's totally sublime. Keep 'em peeled.

Gravatar one other thing...the new Soul Jazz NY Noise comp has a track that AR produced and wrote with Nicky Siano under the name FELIX, and I think it's Tiger Stripes. It's an OK tune, but those that know have told me that Arthur hated it, and did not want his name on it when it was originally released.

Gravatar Steve, thanks for the info (and the great reissues). Looking forward to picking up FIRST THOUGHT BEST THOUGHT.

"Tiger Stripes", I know I've heard that. Isn't that sort of like Siano's "Move" but with a female chorus on top it? The only Felix I have on hand is "You Can't Hold Me Down", which is pretty good.

Gravatar Miguel-

emal me at: info@audikarecords.com with your address and I'll email you a file with Tiger Stripes. Yes, it's an earlier and much better version than Move.

Also some of Arthur's pals are getting together tomorrow night as Arthur Landing and playing a set of AR tunes at St. Marks Church between 10-11 PM.

Gravatar Thanks Miguel for the great post and thanks Steve for the wonderful job being done with these releases. And I am definitely one of the newly-minted AR fans (since the Soul Jazz and Audika releases), but there is no chance my interest is waning as I can't stop listening to those releases and eagerly anticipate more.

Gravatar i'm waitin for vol. 14 which might actually contain something intresting, that you havent heard of before, and more importantly - cant be found easily on original release...

Gravatar i *think* that it's Four Tet because he used to play off of four laptops in the beginning (which now he's down to two)...so that could be it...

Gravatar Isn't "4tet" sort of classical shorthand for "quartet"? Matches heather's explanation I guess.

Gravatar my band Team B are in that issue of wire. it's on the size matters page in the bottom right corner - we released a song on floppy disc. i really liked the article on ken hyder in that issue. you can download some of his stuff at his webpage it's really good.

Gravatar had I remembered to check these comments when posted I may I would've gone to that performance at St. Marks Church! damn.

Anyway, State of the Union is kind of a hit or miss novelty, I can't say I've listened to it in a long time, though I remember liking some of the selections. Like Just Another Asshole, or even Miniatures, there's only so much you can do with a compilation of really incredibly short pieces.

Alldisco was getting really inconsistent, crowd/response-wise and Jeremy, who was the sole regular DJ on saturdays (I had taken over fridays a while back then quit alltogether) was getting tired. I did New Years which went pretty well, then a week later we did the final one, which was a huge success. Don't know if it's just a new crowd and the party's back or it was an anomaly or they just came because it was the "last". In any case, Jeremy is still doing 1 saturday a month and the other 3 saturdays are being taken over by various friends/guests anyway, so most people won't notice a huge difference. see alldisco.net for details.

hopefully I'll come back as a guest every now and again. When the party there is good, it's as much fun as I've ever had DJing.

Gravatar i don't suppose anyone could revive the link for Zummo's Song IV. It's not available anywhere and I'd love to hear it
