The official web site originally reported the Cairo Gang. Perhaps Pfork made a mistake in reporting by not emailing or calling the Cairo Gang, but I don't think you can fault them for reporting what's listed on the official web site.

I might add this is low-level made up sh*t here, and I'm not sensing enough outright fabrication. Just a heady melange of half-facts and speculation. Of course, the fact that most labels have armies of college students on staff to deal with such enquiries, so it's pretty poor form to run this stuff without even trying to ask them.
"JACK WHITE RAPES THE SH*T OUT OF RINGLING BROTHERS ELEPHANT DURING RACONTEURS SHOW AT PROSPECT PARK BANDSHELL!"
That indicates the depths to which any self-respecting music mag should stoop. Anyway, Pitchfork won't care until legions of Nutrament readers deluge the writers' inboxes with scat-fixated threats that mention "R Kellying their future daughters".

no one is allowed to quit The Fall. and the report of his new backing band is still in error.

just wanted to confirm and reiterate: mark e. smith's backing band (the fall, v36.0) were not fired; they quit following the phoenix show (which was cut short due to typical smith drama/assholery), flew back to england, and left his ass (and his "personal manager") to fend for themselves. if you'd enjoy reading details about the tucson show the night before, when the band almost quit, but were talked out of it (i was there, and i have a feeling it was the last kickass fall show that will ever happen, for innumerable reasons), head to this web site: www.tucsonscene.com.
that is all.
oh, yeah. pitchfork is ok sometimes, annoying most of the time, and is treated with way too much reverence/respect than it deserves. if you're a total music dork, trust me: their opinions are no more important--influential, maybe, but not important--than your own.
