The way I see it, as long as religion is still an institution in this country, people should be allowed to express it in a way that doesn't harm others. I can't see how long hair would be detrimental to one's learning environment. And it smacks of sexism, too, considering that women probably aren't required to have short hair. In the very basic interest of gender fairness, let him keep his hair long. But this is something I think he should fight.
