My son who isnt DS had a very very hard time teething, the teeth were visible right there under the gums for months and months, he was miserable. One day my hubby decided to relieve the poor boy by slicing his gums open, I kid you not. You can imagine my reaction and of course didnt let him do it. Hubby proceeds to tell me that he had the same exact thing 30 years ago and the dentist just opened his gums for him! I say I dont care what kind of crazy dentist was available in Syria 30 years ago but here in the usa we dont do things like that (at least I didnt think so). Well as merciful as ALLAH is the teeth cut a few days later.
Fast forward 7 years later and Im in Syria with my second son going through the exact same ordeal (my girls did fine teething) and my mil recalls when hubby was young and how bad it was. Well guess what the gum slicer was still in practice and just around the corner, sister in law takes my son to the "park" the next day cause baby is fussing and he comes home happy and with his gums sliced open! And that was the end of that. Actually it was a very fine almost nothing to it cut that wasnt actually a slice, when I saw how relieved baby was I said I should have helped him myself and my other son a long time ago.
Anyway I obviously dont recommend you do that, just a lil funny I thought Id share.

UmMuhammad OH MY GOODNESS I would have been horroified. Poor baby.. and nope won't be doing that with Umar.. I think he'd prefer ice pops lol

Salaamu alaykum, I guess I never really thought about these issues with children affected by DS. This is some really interesting information. And 'Umar is adorable, masha'Allah! I hope his dental situation improves ASAP! I'm an adult, and any little tooth problem bothers me to death.

shayla- some of the things that can occcur with individuals with DS is surprising to me. Of course I'm learning as I go.

Umm Baidier- I have decided this will be the one to get tottaly ruined all the way. He's going to be the one that has the bed like a treehouse and all the things you hold back on with the others.

Have you tried any teething gels? I used one called Calgel for my kids and it worked well to relieve the pain.

Taiba- I haven't tried anything like that for him. I'll see if I can find it here and give it a try on the bad days
