Gravatar i can dig it.

h.

Gravatar i like it

Gravatar Hmm....My Doorbell, Red Rain and Instinct Blues are interesting. So far, I like it.

Gravatar I think it's the fifth amazing release by one of the most talented bands in recent history. They kind of went back to the sound they were putting out around their self titled CD and De Stijl which happens to be what I loved most from them. It's probably their darkest release yet (hence the album title) and I can't wait until I know every song by heart. Get behind Jack White.

Gravatar Also, I'm pretty sure the track listing is messed up. Little Ghost and Ugly As I Seem seem to have their titles switched.

Gravatar Not anymore, thanks for pointing that out, Nick.

Gravatar This new White Stripes... It's what you want in a great album. It's a little different than the last recording by the band, so much so that it takes a second to decide if this is the time to begin your I-liked-their-older-stuff snobbery (translation: “I fear change.”). But it really has that core sound you always loved. I wanted to listen for a while before chiming in. It's REALLY growing on me fast. This will NOT be the album where I jump off the loving-them bandwagon. I'll have to save my snobbery for later.

I love the use of the out-of-tune piano octaves throughout. When I saw them, he was on the guitar the whole time and Meg was, of course, doing her THANG on the drums, and listening to this, I'm wondering if it was the absence of the piano in their life stage that made it a less than stellar show. Maybe it was that they made us wait for about an hour and a half after the opening band while we watched old cartoons that did it...

Jack White is truly a genius. I still think that. It's a wonderful album that I think will definitely persist over time. Unless the world has gone crazy (well, crazier), I doubt this album will find itself in the annals of forgotten music. I'm grooving on the tambourine and the jangly, dancy bits. I'm loving it all. True rock stars. I'm very impressed. It's definitely going into heavy rotation in my car.

Gravatar anyone have a you send it link for the whole album as mp3?

Gravatar Try the internet. Links to full mp3's of the album will be deleted.

Gravatar The Kid-A to their Ok computer perhaps? Maybee it's not that radical a departure but I can easily see this one boggling some of their fan base. As for me i think it's awesome every song is a stand out track where as on previous records there were songs that were just white stripes songs and didn't do much to stand out here we've got tunes that sound as different from each other as they do from their past work. The first half of the album almost keeps you in a daze on first listen because your wondering where they got all those vibes and what in the hell is going on around here anyway? Even though I had forknowledge that this album was going to be a departure it still took me by surprise and I say that in the best way possible. It's a very pleasant surprise indeed. When Jacks signiture guitar finally makes a comeback on Instinct blues after being absent since the opener it kinda sucker punchs you right in the gut. If I had one complaint to make it'd be that "Passive Manipulation" is too short Megs voice sounds a lot more sure of itself this time out and damnit i wanted more. "Take, Take, Take" pulls some studio tricks that would not be out of place on a queen album bouncing jacks vocals at one point from the left speaker to the right speaker on every word and at other points doubled but slightly off sync throughout the song it's the type of studio trick that works here because we haven't heard it before from the White Stripes. Ok Little Ghost brings to mind Jacks work on the Cold Mountain soundtrack really bluegrass americana banjo worshipping stuff here. Second to last "Red Rain" is a track that combines all the elements of the previous songs together with a more familure White Stripes sound to create one of their best tracks to date as far as i'm concerned. Stand out track for me after one listen was White moon....Wow!!! This is clearly a great album longtime fans will need to keep an open mind this is defintly not White Blood Cells but I don't think i'm going out on a limb when i end this review by calling it their best album yet.

Gravatar can't find mp3s online anywhere--c'mon someone must have a link for the full album?...anyone?

Gravatar now i must say ok computer is for suckers.

Gravatar I think it's great that they keep evolving with each album. So far I haven't disliked anything the White Stripes have put out, and this is definitely an album I can get into. Some of the stongs stand out to me way more at first (ex. My Doorbell) because they're more like my primary taste in music. But the whole album is really impressive to me. I'm proud of their success and hope that it only continues to grow. I'm not sure about their music video for Blue Orchid though, it kind of made me nauseated a little bit because of the way it was filmed. But the song is still great.

Gravatar just as i expected... unpredictable, different, and above all AWESOME!

Gravatar hey thanks, eric!

Gravatar Bitchin

Gravatar i started listening to the WS back when they had one album out, and its been a rewarding challenge of adaptation and acceptance each time a new WS album comes out. i like this one better than elephant already. but nothing will compare to playing the 1st s/t album on vinyl and shaking the floors with it.

doorbell is a fun lil' ditty.

Gravatar I'm a dumbass, fuddy-duddy and I'm not going to listen to the album until comes out, but I just listened to about the first minute of every track and I know that I'm going to love this album!!! I've already heard The Nurse and Forever For Her in their entirety and I loved both. Jack has grown so much as a songwriter. If this album doesn't establish him as one of the best songwriters and musicians around right now, then people are either deaf or stupid.

Gravatar I'm totally dumbfounded! I love it that GBMS is so eclectic and the quick transitions are cool. First negative impression is that it sure doesn't rock very hard ... outside of "Blue Orchid," where are the counterparts to "Let's Build a Home," "Jimmy the Exploder," "Seven Nation Army" and "Dead Leaves"? But I do like it and I think it will grow on me.

Gravatar sounds cool to me!

Gravatar loved it! im going to buy it the day it comes out...

Gravatar wholy fritos it's fantesticle. i like the new experimental vibe; it's a nice take on what they've been doing and moving it in an even more obscure direction. tastey tastey tunes.

flavorite track: the denial twist

Gravatar i dig it.

really dig it.

when you gonna ring it??

jack white's next wife,
nikkole

Gravatar a little to much piano, I was hoping for more rawk guitar. But it's raw and dirty and that's always good too. It's different than what I'm used to hearing from them, but I do like it. I suppose it'll just take some getting used to.

Gravatar Wow, nice they discoverd new instruments...they're not playing at 11 on this one but still rocks, I dig.

Gravatar Listen to the entire album... another great album from The White Stripes! My personal favs are The Nurse (positively different and the crashing of those drums... nuff said), The Denial Twist, My Doorbell (with one of the best lyrics ever in a chorus in years), White Moon, Little Ghost, Passive Manipulation (like Anoyomous 8:22 am said, I wished she sang more or had another track!), and Instinct Blues. That piano really dominates this album, but it still sounds like The White Stripes.

Lyrics I remember from the album...

(My Doorbell)
"I'm thinkin' about my doorbell/When you gonna ring it/ When you gonna ring it?

(Passive Manipulation)
"Women, listen to your mothers/Don't just succumb to the wishes of your brothers/Take a step back/Take a look at one another/You need to know the difference, between a father and a lover."

(Instinct Blues)
"When are you gonna get with it?"

(The Nurse)
"But promises open the door to be broken with me."

Gravatar Already have pre-ordered the album. Really digging the new sound. Wish V2 would throw that stream back up to keep me rockin until June 7th.

Gravatar I didn't get to listen to the whole album, didn't get here fast enough, dang it, but the two singles you have up rock! I love the Stripes so much. I guess I'll just eagerly await the album!

Gravatar Ive only heard Doorbell and Orchid, but from what all of you say, and from what I have faith in, this will be the weirdest awesomest most coolest album Jack n' Meg have whipped up yet. Bring back the stream!!!

Gravatar This album is AWESOME!They are always reinventing themselves. plus Jack White is SEXY.

Gravatar I second that motion.

Gravatar It's muddy and good.

Gravatar Great album! Will it be the best WS album? Definitely I`ll be way up there! Love half of the album, like very much the rest, except for white moon, i´m lonely and the meg song, all of which i don´t hate, but not precisely rock my boat!

Gravatar its been over a week!!! BRING IT BACK UP POR FAVOR!!!

Gravatar each white stripes album got progressively better up until elephant, which i think is one of the best albums ever. i doubted that they could top it, but i think they just did. at first listen it is drastically different from the rest of their catalog, but upon closer inspection, i noticed that a lot of the songs are similar to older works, just with different instruments. "doorbell" reminds me of "no home for you here" and "the air near my fingers" from elephant. people said that the stripes might be as talented as many classic rock acts, but weren't originals. well, i've never heard anything like this before.

Gravatar I must say I'm pretty disappointed! I just love White Little Bloodcells (WLB) and Elephant for what they are - brilliant rock albums! But Get Behind Me Satan just makes my ears bleed :-( Too many experiments, and the raw and primitive rock sound from WLB and Elephant has been abandoned completely. In deed a huge step backwards! Only My Doorbell and I'm lonely saves this album from being a complete mess.

Gravatar An excellent album. My Doorbell, Red Rain, The Denial Twist, Forever for Her and I'm Lonely are all amazing.

Gravatar AMAZING! Jack continues to surprise listeners over and over. He's a genius!

Gravatar I LOVE JACK WHITE!

Gravatar its da bomb

Gravatar Horrible. I own all of their previous releases but I wouldn't even accept this as a gift. What in the hell were they thinking?

Gravatar mmmmmm, delicious!

Gravatar You know this household loves White Stripes when one of my six kiddies shouts out, "Hey, Mama ... isn't that Jack White?"

Having said that, there are some songs that are a little reminiscent of Elephant... all in all, I could listen to Jack sing anything, any time!

Gravatar The white stripes never fail me

Im sooo excited to buy the cd, virgin is giving free shirts as well....yessss!!!

Gravatar I am a big fan of The White Stripes. This album takes a couple of listens before it can truly be appreciated, but I really like it! I have been streaming it for hours straight!!

Gravatar according to amazon and allmusic, this isn't the correct song order for the album. little ghost should be switched with as ugly as i seem (i.e., little ghost should be the fifth song, and as ugly as i seem the eleventh). it's no biggie, just thought i'd let you know.

Gravatar Already made a pretty negative comment on this album here, but of course I couldn't help it, and after listening a few more times to the album I start liking it. Not as great as White Blood Cells or Elephant (just listen to Red Rain and tell me its not a ripoff off their own cover number "I Just Don't Know..."), but still it contains several really good songs, and actually nice they don't stay in the same old guitar/drum track on all tracks.

And yeah, great idea with that piano!

Gravatar its kind of disappointing.
definitely different, that's for sure. maybe i need a second listen. not your standard white stripes though.

Gravatar Ahh...it has totally grown on me now. I was at the record store when it opened to buy it! God, it hasn't left my cd player yet. I know all the words. I am so looking forward to hearing "White Orchid" live at Music Midtown. John and Megan have really out done themselves this time. Red Rain sounds like some old stuff but i love his obsession with Rita Hayworth in Take, Take, Take. It's more than i dreamed of. I love it SO much. Mesmerizing.

Gravatar Ambitious, muddy, a little weird, sad, I love it. Lonely, ticked off Jack is the best Jack there is. It won't be received well (I think EW gave it a ridiculous C+), but these are the people who buy Good Charlotte and Clay Aiken albums, so who cares, right?

Gravatar Love it. I haven't really thought a band was 'cool' for many years. Who knows what cool is, but in my opinion they seem to define it with sincerity.

Gravatar This album is INCREDIBLE.Best album I've ever heard...in my life.Jack White has the Most interesting way of music. The drums in all the albums are so simple ,but when Jack White plays the guitar doing all the bass stuff and weird riffs,It ads a little Jist. It's amazing.

Gravatar i allways love jack he is the best i which he win a grammy for the new cd i think he deserve it this year its allways the rapp guys please vote for jack

Gravatar Jack White is the Sexiest thing on this earth...and his music says it all!....SOOOOOO SOOOOO HOT Jack!

Gravatar i conquer.
