The one fact always left out of the "Denkinger" series: The Cards were up 3-1.

Yes Matt you are correct they were up 3-1. They were also three outs away (actually 2 outs if the Dink doesn't make one of the worst calls in baseball history). The point is he screwed up, by his own admission (which is the only time I have ever heard of an ump or ref in any sport admit they were wrong). That call changed the outcome of that inning , which changed the outcome of that game, which changed the outcome of that series. Much the same way the Bartman incident changed the outcome of that inning, game, series.

Actually there are alot of similarities in those two incidents, Jack Clark dropped an easy pop up, Gonzalez boots a sure double play ball (or atleast a sure out that may have stopped the bleeding).

The difference however is the outcome of that Cub game was changed by an idiot fan who reached over into the field of play. Ours was changed by a professional umpire who supposedly was at the top of his game (obviously working a World Series he was supposed to be the best of the best), he was being paid a lot of money to make correct calls, and he failed, and it cost the Cardinals a World Series.

If he gets that call right that changes the whole inning, instead of no one out and a runner on first, there is 1 out and no one on. The Royals begin to doubt themselves. Instead the blown call shot life into a beaten, whipped, inferior team, and that call changes the game. Much the same way Bartman changed that game in 2003.

Wrong, anonymous.

Bartman is another handy excuse, just like the billy goat and curses and black cats, that some Cub fans like to use to excuse the fact that the Cubs choke.

You know who got the biggest pass in Cubs history? Alex Gonzalez, who booted a potential double play ball after the Bartman non-incident.

Just like Bartman didn't pitch or hit for the Cubs, either did Denkinger for the Cardinals.

To use Bartman and Denkinger as excuses as to why the Cubs or Cards didn't beat their opponents is childish and borders on stupidity.

And also, I didn't see the game, but didn't Rogers clean his hand off in the 2nd inning? What was the excuse for the innings after that?

Enjoy the moment. You're sounding like a kool-aid swilling Cubs fan.

We are now officially in hell.

First the White Sox win and the very next year the Cardinals win.

Horrible.

Chris,

dido...you beat me to it. First, I have to listen to all of the early release cons go on and on about the south side, now the inbreds from southern IL have another moment in the sun. The only upside for me is that I'm still in L.A. Then again . . .
