I actually got thanked for not letting a door swing back behind me an whack the shopper behind me in the face! "Thanks for waiting, my friend," he said.
"It was so little," I replied. All of this was in Danish. I was so excited when I got home that I told my wife all about it.
"He didn't say thanks for waiting," she explained. "He said thanks for the friendliness." I had heard ventede-something, but he had actually said venlighed-something.
Anyway, he did thank me... manners are bustin' out all over!
(On the other hand, at the hospital I had to watch a guy take up one of four seats available in an OB/GYN area while 3-4 pregnant women stood around uncomfortably.)
It must be the spring-time... People are crawling back out from under the rocks where they reside during winter time. I shouldn't be surprised, as the exact same thing happens in Helsinki every year!
