They did fight tooth and nail and it was ugly. Even on the blogs at that time, where less constraint is evident in peoples sentiments one could feel the complete animosity towards helping the inner city poor by providing health care. The arguments focused on why Ven. Dr.s werent being used and that the Cubans were displacing them. It boggles the mind to think that had these programs not been initiated the social awareness level of the condition of those without sufficient medical care would not have been addressed. Only when action was taken by those willing to go into the Barrio did the they complain that they were being displaced. Before then they could have rotted to death for all they cared.
