Chavez' and the Bolivarian government's modest reformism is only 'radical' in the context of a world ran by an unethical imperial power for whom the logic of IMF austerity is recognized as gospel.
Of course this is self-serving; because the IMF sponsor countries, composed of wealthy nations, would not dream of using the same economic logic with respect to their own nations' economies.
Imagine, a novel idea--the idea that the nation-state (and not unaccountable, undemocratic private corporations) has a responsibility to intercede in the delivery of life's basics: health, housing, education, and infrastructure. And this is seen as radical.
I am hoping that some types of worker-ownership/co-management becomes established in the private sector. Until the private sector is brought under some forms of democratic control, they will be the leading players in leading the population of the world toward greater immiseration in a race toward the bottom.
Congratulations to the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, as they expand the basic infrastructure that they will need to develop a country that is vibrant culturally and economically in the face of the perverted economic logic being forwarded by the wealthy nations that have never gone beyond their racist colonial aspirations and beliefs.
When you are being hit by the master's stick--you must take the stick from the master's hand and demand that he stop striking. This is the path toward human health and freedom.
In configuring the nascent outlines of what a twenty-first centrury socialism can look like, while implementing basic programs like Barrio Adentro, Bolivar's people have taken stick from the master's hand.
Now comes the difficult task of making the master obey the needs, desires and will of the people.

Pulpo:
Welcome back! Hope you got some good R&R. Unfortunately for you she's not a nurse. She was introduced as the construction manager for the clinic.
The pictures came from Aporrea. They had them posted on their site. Screen shots from TV wouldn't have been nearly as nice.
