Gravatar Bush Criticized for Linking 9/11 and Iraq

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Congressional critics of President Bush's stay-the-course commitment to the war in Iraq argued Wednesday that the administration lacks sufficient troops on the ground to mount a successful counterinsurgency.

Democrats in particular criticized Bush for again raising the Sept. 11 attacks as a justification for the protracted fight in Iraq after the president proclaimed anew that he plans to keep U.S. forces there as long as necessary to ensure peace.

----------Here is my favorite----------

"We fight today because terrorists want to attack our country and kill our citizens, and Iraq is where they are making their stand. So we will fight them there, we will fight them across the world and we will stay in the fight until the fight is won."

The sad part of about this is that the ignorant morons who beleive this crap justify the claim by citing terrorist elements working in Iraq now AS A RESULT OF the US invasion

Gravatar All 17 US troops in Afghan crash believed dead By David Brunnstrom

KABUL (Reuters) - All 17 U.S. troops aboard an American helicopter that crashed after being hit by ground fire in an anti-militant operation in Afghanistan are believed to have died, a U.S. official said on Wednesday.

The casualties from Tuesday's crash would be the heaviest for U.S. forces in an incident linked to hostile fire in Afghanistan since they invaded to overthrow the Taliban in 2001.

MISSILES

In early June, the U.S. military said a helicopter had been attacked in Uruzgan province by a suspected surface-to-air missile. Such weapons, supplied by the United States, were used to great effect by guerrillas fighting Soviet occupiers in the 1980s, but the Taliban have not been known to use them.

U.S. defense officials in Washington, who asked not to be identified, said those on the helicopter included elite Navy Seals Special Operations troops trained to fight in all environments, especially behind enemy lines.

I brought this up under another post. Techniques improve over time and weaker groups tend to close the gap with stronger groups the more they fight. So the fight for the US will get harder, not easier. And if the Taliban can bring down helicopters regularly its not going to be fun being a GI in Afghanistan.

I wonder if some Russian military types would give the Taliban missiles to to exact payback on the US? Wouldn't suprise me.
