Gravatar This is precious:

Chavez hugging Jackson and saying: "I have an idea..."

Indeed, Chavez has in mind supplying discounted oil to poor communities.

I'm lov'in it! It don't get much better than this.

The rightwingers are spinning, unable to think about how to react.

If we can spread the Bolivarian project to the US you will see all-out fascism from the elites of this country.

But we have too many people who arn't white for this to become another Germany. This will be a different fascism.

Gravatar Actually, I think the gringos can affort their own gas. Certianly if they don't have money their government can help them. It has a couple of hundred billion for a war I'm sure it can find the money for this.

So aid for latin america year - aid for countries that are already wealthy - they don't need it.

Anyways, very happy about the visit by Jackson and what he has had to say. The more solidarity the better.

Gravatar I totally disagree OW--there are people in the US that have to make a choice between paying the rent, or buying a drug perscription/seeing a doctor.

Please don't conflate the massive material prosperity enjoyed/squandered by the majority of the population with the condition suffered by the millions of impoverished people.

More, this type of solidarity with the poor will help stoke people to become more critical of our corrupt plutocratic system.

Of course, I would not enjoy any benefits for this program--because it is geared toward poorer communities. But the effort is predicated on human solidarity, as well as by geopolitical real-politic.

Gravatar Yes, I get your point. But it would really be nice if they would just get out of Iraq and quit wasting so much money on their war machine. Then there would be plenty of money for more expansive social programs.

Sure things are getting better in Venezuela. But that doesn't mean there aren't LOTS of unmet needs. There are. So I just don't know how much of that Venezuela can afford to do as well intentioned as it may be.

Gravatar BTW, I just was browsing and reading about that hurricane Katrina. Sounds very scarey. I guess there are lots of poor people lin New Orleans with no cars and no way to get out. I hope somone helps them. I really hope there isn't a tragedy here. Maybe they could car pool or use busses.

Gravatar Well, OW--there is the Super Bowl, this massive sports stadium is being used as a place to ride-out the storm.

However, there are many older, wooden structures in New Orleans--no doubt many people will stay in their homes.

My thoughts are with the people of New Orleans. Suerte

Gravatar Point well taken OW. Of course there are ample unmet needs here in the US. More, the poor, as a class, haven't mobilized. Part of the responsibility is on the people at the bottom to put pressure on the parasitical upper classes.

That said, the people at the top use the power of the media and the state to quash any uprisings.

Of course part of the plan as an element of nationalist self-interest on the part of Venezuela. However, it seems that Chavez's strategy is working--the Bolivarian governement is making it more difficult for the ruling classes in the Americas to back an all-out US invasion.

The chances of invasion have become much, much more difficult for the rightwing and the obsequious Democratic Party (good for nothings).

If Chavez can just stay alive and keep the momentum going toward a progressive direction, we can make some necessary and long over-due advancement.

Gravatar OW==turns out that this offer of reduced-price oil is in the catagory of heating fuel subsidies.

The irony here is delicious--given that our government has dramatically reduced subsidies these past few years.

This winter promises to see many people dead because they cannot aford the astronomical prices for keeping their home warm.

This subsides by Venezuela will build tremendous good will in the US--and make Bush look like a damn scrooge.

A masterful stroke of political genious in my opinion.

No doubt--the liberal/conservative punditocracy will have a fit with this offer. Chavez is making the US political class look like degenerate assholes, moral no-shows and ethical retards.

Oh yeah--they are!

Gravatar Maybe we could help elect Chavez as president of the US also.

Just a thought.

Bush's policies are making a perfect constituency for such a turn of events. LOL

Gravatar Oil is over $70 a barrel. It looks like Katrina might shut down Gulf of Mexico production for some time.

Could it be that God is a Chavista too? Expect Vcrisis to have a post any day now exposing how God is an employee of the Venezulean Information Office.

Gravatar BTW, just heard from people at work the Citgo refinery Chalmette had to shut down. So Citgo/PDV could take something of a hit too.

Gravatar Sandy:

"Expect Vcrisis to have a post any day now exposing how God is an employee of the Venezulean Information"

Your killing me. I think I pulled a muscle laughing at that one so hare

God a Chavista indeed!!!

Gravatar God is CHavista whats with the laughter?
