Catching up on the celebrity gossip courtesy of Voici and Public
What is it about the holidays that makes us read these things? Is it proof that the brain really does switch off for three weeks?

I think it's something about looking at celebs' wobbly bits. Maybe. But I'm happy reading a copy of Heat any time of the year!

I'm glad you had a restful break. What on earth happened that the car was on fire?!?!?!

Ahhh - the car. It suddenly started 'screaming' and losing power. Even after we turned off the engine, changed down gear and used the handbrake to come to a stop, the 'screaming' was continuing and smoke was pouring out of every vent. Unfortunately there was no hard shoulder where we were as we were at the end of a slip road onto the motorway.
So... we had to jump out (I was still barefoot) and climb over the barrier. The garage just called today and the turbo was buggered. That'll be €2k repairs. Yikes.
However, we were lucky because we've been told that usually the next thing that happens is the engine bursts into flames.
Rather too dramatic for my liking!

I actually read two - "Si c'etait vrai" and its sequel "Vous revoir" by Marc Levy.
The first one has just been made into a Dreamworks film with Reese Witherspoon and Mark Ruffalo. Which gives you an indication of its intellectual level. But they were both easy, fun holiday reads. And much better than the film version (which we rented this week).

thanks for the info. I'll look for them next time I'm in a bookshop. Frankly speaking, I kind of hesitate...don't know why, in front of those bookshelves full of French literature. Fear of a book unfinished? Most probably

I like that photo. Reading a book contents to appendix in the sister language, mmh - I've avoided that since school...
