to make people realise who makes the decision in Reims, send a picture of the mayor it is always quite funny to see his face.

I think watching a dubbed movie takes some practice. I'm so distracted by the vocal/lip mismatch that I can't follow the storyline. I'll take subtitles any time and often do, since a lot of good movies are not in English!
When we were living in Greece we'd go to American or English movies subtitled in Greek. There was always a lot more noise in the cinema (a) because they didn't have to listen and (b) because Greeks love to talk . Comedies were the worst. They would be able to read the punchline faster than the actors delivered it, then laugh their heads off so we couldn't hear the punchline! Tres annoying.

Cedric - I wouldn't do that to my readers... they might not come back. Anyway there's always hope in 2007, non?
Andrea - I'm quite used to the subtitling thing now. Frog, whilst fluent in English, prefers to have them on whilst watching DVDs. I find that I'm compelled to read them in English too... it's quite distracting!

I'm happy to see a French French film, but don't ask me to watch a film dubbed in French
Ugh - gives me a rash just thinking about it...
I agree about the subtitles thing, though. They're very distracting, and yet it's impossible not to look at them.

Iain - the one exception to dubbed programmes is CSI (or Les Experts) when shown on TV.
Funnily enough, I hated it when I saw it once in English. It was far too cheesy and obvious - I prefer plot twists and cynicsm in my TV.
Then I caught it dubbed on TF1 a couple of months ago and thought it was great. The reason being I could follow the plot with no problems in getting lost with the French. It was so damned obvious and cheesy!

I'm not a big TV person, but ER freaked me out the one and only time I ever saw it in English. I couldn't deal with all these 'new' voices.
The other thing that freaks me out now and again is when the same French actor dubs different American actors' voices. I see one character on screen, but the voice I hear is that of a different character in a completely different series.

Iain - I can't watch Friends dubbed as that's one where the original voices engrained in my head.
