Gravatar tell the frenchies to stay home and invite me instead

I think, if you're going for real English fare, stick with your guns.

(and when it's all done and over with you won't need us to tell you you're being stupid for worrying about this, you'll be telling yourself!)

Gravatar Just reading the menu makes me feel stuffed - or maybe it's the unusually large breakfast I just had...
Doc's right, you're going for an English meal, and Frog, well... isn't.
You'll have your revenge when you offer him the After Eight and he turns it down, in true Monty Python fashion...

Gravatar Doc & Anne
Thank you - I know I'm right, I just need some moral support!

Anne - ha ha - I was thinking about the wafer thin mint... glad someone picked up on that!

Gravatar If I were you, I would skip the whole celebration (both of them, actually) and would fly out with my husband to a place where to spend some peaceful days.
Do you ever care to make YOURSELF happy?

Gravatar Umm... May, thank you for your comment.

The truth of the matter is that I do an awful lot of things that make me happy. And despite the fact that I might appear to be moaning about Christmas preparations, they are not things I'd do if I didn't want to!

I will get to spend Christmas in my lovely flat, with my Mum, husband and extended family members. I can't think of anything better.

The peaceful days will come in the New Year!

Gravatar Thank you for reassuring me.
The thing is that you look like an angel, sound like the sweetest girl in the world and this woke my maternal instinct up. I still think that you tend to give (in a broad sense) more than you ask for yourself but hopefully 2007 will be the best year ever for you.

Gravatar Your menu is fabulous! Keep the starter simple and they will be impressed and well fed. Have fun!

Gravatar Stick to your guns - it is an English Christmas lunch/dinner after all! Smoked salmon entree is light and easy to prepare, as you said. However, where's the trifle? and the mince pies?!

It might be 30degrees here on the big day but we still do all the trimmings - bread sauce included, not that the Aussies have a clue what that is!!

Gravatar Thank you Antipo for your blessing on the menu

Nic - I only eat the odd mince pie and really can't be bothered to make a batch (although if they turn up in mum's magic bag of shopping, I won't be disappointed!).

And no - trifle is not a Christmas tradition in our household, I did make a nice one this summer. Christmas pudding and a chocolate alternative for those who don't like it (i.e. me!)

Gravatar I think your menu sounds great. My French husband gets freaked out if I try to serve something different, such as margaritas and guacamole. The French sometimes seem stuck in tradition. When I've gone ahead and done my American friend, the French love it. I personally get tired of having the same thing over and over again when I eat at French homes. Sometimes they seem afraid to step outside of the lines. Go for it! Serve it all without fear!
