Gravatar I don't think slander is protected by the Freedom of Speech Amendment.

Think Tanks were created to advance the global agenda of the elite.

Think tanks only represent those who support them and that is neither you or I.

So when you hear think tank, realize that you are hearing the voice of the root of all evil. The great deciever, lier and certainly not our friend.

I wonder about these articles that keep coming out of okpns.

Gravatar The problem that I have with this bill is that it will allow the Democrats to arbitrarily decide which political spech is acceptable and which isn't. This is a big problem becuase this state has had very colorful political history where we've had elected officials participate in unethical and illegal activties. And now, we're going to start criminalizing blowing the whistle on these unethcial and illegal activities and grant special rights and protections to these bums from having the whistle blown on them? GIVE ME A FREAKIN BREAK!!!!!!!! If Brad Henry signs this bill he's an idiot!!!!!!!

Gravatar I can understand your concern, no one likes free speech more than I. But it seems pretty specific to me:

"any person to intentionally participate in the dissemination of false political advertising"

Nothing wrong with requiring truth in advertising, even if its political advertising.

Many times a lie is made up, knowing full well it is a lie. The lie might be spread by email, I'm sure you've seen a lot of that. It's not harmless, because no matter how ridiculous the lie might be, someone will believe it and change their vote. What happens is, the best person doesn't get elected the best lier does.

Telling lies about other people is not protected by the free speech amendment, slander is punishable by law and we've let to much of it go on for too long and that's why we have such dishonest politicians in office and it has to stop somewhere and I welcome any legislation that will require honesty in politics as it should be.

Gravatar Yeah, but the problm with that is who is in charge of our state right now and that the Democrats.Like it or not, blowing the whistle on public officials is protected by free speech. It was never the intention of our founding fathersfor cprrupt politicians to be protected from exporsure of their unethcial and illegal activities. And I'm afraid given the demaanor of those in power and that they have been such piss poor sports when it comes to having their unethical and illegal actions exposed they could very well missuse and abuse this power and locak up innocent people. This kind of nonsense was what turned Zimbabwe into a thrid world country. These corrupt politicans and their fiefdom need to be put out of business. If there was any common sense, this law would bextruck down in court. There are far more important things to worry about than the reputations of these politicans.

Gravatar Two words, "intentionally" and "false"

Whistle blowers disseminate known or uncovered truths, and even if they were mistaken, you would have to prove that they intentionally meant to spread false rumors.

But yay, laws can never be perfect enough, someone will always abuse them, misinterpret them or take them to the extreme.

It's really scary, its like we live in a world where common sense has jumped out the window.

Gravatar Well, you're right Roger. Common Sense has indeed jumped out the window.I think we better pay attention to how this law is applied. I'm afraid we may be treading on dangerously thin ice here.

Gravatar As heard on KTOK radio, this group has it all wrong.

They were looking at Senate amendments to the bill, not the enrolled version that is on the governor's desk.

The House rejected those Senate amendments and sent the bill to a conference committee. In that committee, the bill was changed so that the only thing it deals with is contributions to lawmakers or canidates for the legislature by lobbyists during the session and five days afterwards.

I talked with the spokesman for the Center for Competitive Politics and he was not aware the bill had been changed.

You can see for yourself by going to http://webserver1.lsb.state.ok.u...tatus/ main.html and reading the nerolled version of the bill which is on the governor's desk.

Or you can take the word of someone in Washington who puts out a press release.

Your choice.

Gravatar nice press work Peter J.
how embarrassing for this group....

Gravatar Know this: if it passes the last week of the session and it contains the word "reform," it isn't.
