Gravatar WHO CARES. They are crazy, and morons to boot. Leave them alone to be morons.

Gravatar I don't care about them. Do I cover celebrity gossip in my blog?

But the discussion about the name is interesting, or rather, the fact that virtually none of the "experts" seem to have chanced upon the almost certain fact about the name's origin.

Gravatar I always find etymology of words to be interesting.

Gravatar Same here.

Gravatar No comment on "Kabbala, a distant offshoot of Judaism"?

(Is that any more accurate than: "Jewish religious rationalism, a distant [etc.]" or "Modern Orthodoxy, a distant [etc.]" or "Mussar..." I say this as a self described Maimonidean Mussarnik)

Gravatar >No comment on "Kabbala, a distant offshoot of Judaism"?

Good point.

It was obviously being used in the Kabbalah Center sense. I suspect Roger Friedman of FOX News doesn't have the faintest notion of how kabbalah relates to Judaism or the major role its played over the past 800 years, in Christianity as well as Judaism.

Gravatar maybe instead of sarai (kabbalistic), they went with suri because it is also a word in Persian.

Gravatar "I suspect Roger Friedman of FOX News doesn't have the faintest notion of how kabbalah relates to Judaism or the major role its played over the past 800 years"

he's all confused on the sarai/sarah math thing also.

Gravatar The question is, where did they get the name from? Cruise/ Holmes do not strike me as knowledgeable of either Persian or Hebrew. It's possible they got it from a baby name book, but which one would have "suri" instead of "sarah?" Furthermore, they are not associated with kabbalah in any way. On the contrary, they are Scientologists.

Gravatar >he's all confused on the sarai/sarah math thing also.

Yeah, I thought that went without saying. That's sort of made up on the spot.

Gravatar Scientology is to the Kabbalah Center

AS

fill in the blank

Gravatar As apples are to apples?

Gravatar "The question is, where did they get the name from?"

they have people. her people and his people sat down and did lunch, no? that's why I think the kabala is a possibility.

Gravatar I could be wrong, but the impression I am under is that one of the chief reasons why Scientology (and to a lesser extent KC) are considered cults is precisely because they discourage friendships with non-members. Cruise even made a well documented purge of his inner circle, expelling all non-Scientologists! I would guess (emphasis on that) that Scientology and KC hate each other. Microsoft and Apple, ya know?

That said, it could well be that some old school Hollywood type (doubtlessly named something like John Gold nee Leibele Goldschnitzelovskikovitz) told them about Suri, "which means princess in Hebrew."

Gravatar you're probably right. I was thinking publicists, but I haven't been paying this much mind.

Gravatar S- speaking of apples, any comment about baby girl Moses?

Gravatar Tom is "innocence" in Hebrew. Katie's name has the numerical value of "Loss". Together, in Kabbalistic terms, they comprise "loss of innocence". It therefore makes sense for them to have named their daughter, Apple, which symbolizes original sin.

Ooops, sorry, that was Gwyneth Paltrow's baby name.

I am embarrassed to admit the endless amount of celebrity trivia that subconsciously filters through to my brain.

Gravatar LOL That was great!

Gravatar Thank you S.; this has been driving me bonkers! Some entertainment reporter found one ignorant Israeli to give a quote on the name, and then the story grew legs and every subsequent piece cites "Israelis" in general.

Gravatar So, is she just an AP?
