A•W•S•O•M•E idea S.
I'm going to email you for the password.
The only condition I ask of anyone who is interested in joining is that they too add something
The problem is most of my stuff I get from you :)
Well, I think the best way is to use the firefox browser and download the Gspace extension. Once downloaded, you can access Gspace under the tools menu and use it as a regular FTP client.
This won't be an issue with MAC users I hope?
Again, exellent idea. Perhaps we could eventually create a website that will hold all this stuff.

Don't worry about what you have to add. I just want people to try to contribute as well as take.
As for Mac, I don't know. You can always just send files via email.
As for a web site, the only concern I have is copyright issue. I could be wrong, but I assume some buddies are allowed to have access to a private email account.
(I am happy to make new buddies, so don't forget to email me for the password!)

Ok, I just checked the account.
Question!
Krum put 5 different files into one unnamed email. How are we supposed to do a search like that?

sorry about that. my eyes glazed over once i read the words "Gspace extension" and "FTP client" so i didn't read the suggestion about breaking articles out into separate emails.

I dont know. We'll figure it out. This is just the beginning. All beginnings are tough. Thanks for the contribution, Krum.

It says the files didn't load and are broken. Now you gotta fix it :)

What are you going to do when many people send you the same article?
Are you going to keep on top of the account and delete duplicate files?

I will try to keep on top of it as much as I can. I hope others will pitch in too, as they have the same access to the account that I have. In theory, I am not the baalhabos!
So far the response has been nice. A lot of people are interested. Keep joining, keep adding things! :)

Great idea!
If I can make a suggestion. Perhaps we can agree to use the drive emulator tzvee linked to above and then decide on a convention for putting the files in particular folders (either by author or by subject).
That way, finding articles will be much easier!

I suggest it should be by author (subjects are too dificult to define).
for example, all articles by Dr. Leiman should be under a Leiman, S directory and so forth.

If can repeat my suggestion, maybe, instead of gspace, we can use gmail drive: http://viksoe.dk/code/gmail.htm
that way, we are not forcing anyone to use a particular browser.
What does everyone think? It is very easy to use, you just install it and it apears like a regular drive on your machine (under "my computer")

I set up the gmail account to automatically forward any e-mails to my account. If we stick with the e-mail, I recommend it so you don't need to check back just to see if anything has been added

I found some free online storage space at http://www.box.net
I have set up an account with the same username and password as the gmail account.
There are several advantages to using this service:
a) google might catch on to services such as gspace and we will loose all the storage. This service is meant for this purpose.
b) this service is completely web based and requires no instalations. It should work on any platform
c) unlike gspace, a folder structure is native to to this service so organization should be easier
Now, the storage allowed is only 1GB not 2 but it is really not so bad. The 2gb number is misleading since email attachments are all base64 encoded and that adds 33% to the size of each file. This means that the gmail method is effectivly 1.5gb.
Does anyone object to moving this endevour to box.net?

Gentleman, fantastic idea. I say that a vote has to be taken, whether we wish to use the Box.net or the Gmail account.
I am personally in favour of using Box.net. I think it is a lot more organised than Gmail. What say you?

This is an excellent idea, Fred. Like some of the other commenters, I'm worried about the legalities. I can get wonderful stuff from JSTOR and EBSCO at my workplace, but don't want to violate the terms of the license.

Nothing yet.
Tell the truth, I think there might end up being a problem if this is online as opposed to simply sitting in an email inbox.
