Wow. Thank you for this excellent public service.

Incidentally, the Shem HaGedolim HaChadash is not Chida's but a later imitation consisting (mostly) of Chassidishe personalities.

Thanks.

I know that; as I said in the post I will add notes when I have the chance.

שם הגדולים השלישי can be found on hebrewbooks.org - what exactly is that?

7) Nachman Krochmal's More nevukhe ha-zeman.

Can someone who has read More nevukhe ha-zeman tell me whether I need to read Nevukhe ha-zeman first?

Gravatar Luzzatto's Isaiah! That was my Holy Grail. Now I can die happy, after 120.

Gravatar >Can someone who has read More nevukhe ha-zeman tell me whether I need to read Nevukhe ha-zeman first?

You mean Moreh Nevuchim? No, you don't need to learn that first. You may want to Read Hegel's Lectures on the Philosophy of History though. :)

not sure if i have to wait for your explanation or not, but am i missing something? Nos. 4, 11 and 12 (the only three i checked) do not provide full text at all. what was the point of adding them if you cant actually see them (or is something off from my connection)?
and more significantly, how did you find these? was it just random, your happening to want to see if xyz exist in (full text) online or was there a more systematic methodolgy involved?
and besides google, and umich, which sites do you recommend for such searches (other than hebrewbooks.org and jnul)?

At least it wasn't your White Whale. ;)

>(or is something off from my connection)?

I'm afraid it may have something to do with your location (.il, if memory serves?). Unfortunately Google has odd copyright quirks. However, I will be happy to email you the PDFs if you like.

>and more significantly, how did you find these? was it just random, your happening to want to see if xyz exist in (full text) online or was there a more systematic methodolgy involved?

A little bit of both. I'll post more about that as I have the time later.

>and besides google, and umich, which sites do you recommend for such searches (other than hebrewbooks.org and jnul)?

and seforimonline, of course. But also archive.org, and books.live.com (although its of limited utility--but it does have the Jewish Encyclopedia). As well as various other libraries around the world. I have to check my links.

Gravatar "please note that the time is short for me right now."

So true. So short for all of us.

Gravatar With many, many thanks.

a few notes:

1 some google books can't be d/l over a foreign server; use a proxy to relocate the ISP to something in the States (Targum Yerushalmi for example)

2 Shem HaGedolim is a UoM misunderstanding, the author is NOT the CHIDA, rather R' Ahron Walden, a comteporary of R' Y"S Natenzohn and R' S Kluger

3 seforim from UoM are not pdf'ed and as far as I can see, to d/l, you would need to print each page by itself (as a pdf), and combine them afterwards...

again, many many thanks, and hopefully more to come...

YMD

Gravatar use a proxy to relocate the ISP to something in the States (Targum Yerushalmi for example)
could you be more specific please (as in,how do you do that? for those of us less technologically savvy :) )?
thanks!

Gravatar "Can someone who has read More nevukhe ha-zeman tell me whether I need to read Nevukhe ha-zeman first?"

More or less, yes.

Gravatar Re: Saadya's Tafsir--

Google only shows snippets based on search query.

Is there a way to look up a specific posuk?

Thanks

Gravatar One more link: Salamon Munk's edition of the Guide of the Perplexed, "Guide des Egares" is available in full-text on Google. But only one volume out of 3. It contains the Judeo-Arabic source at the end of the volume. http://books.google.com/books? id...id=GZk1AAAAIAAJ

Gravatar Oh, and one more to share:

Harry Wolfson's Book on the Kalam:

http://www.muslimphilosophy.com/...books/ kalam.pdf

Gravatar Just realized I was limited to snippets because I'm in Canada. The solution is to go to a site like:
https://www.vtunnel.com/
and paste in the url of the googlebook. You can then download the whole thing.

Gravatar i actually found Shadal's Isaiah in a used book store in Jerusalem.

Gravatar Note that MNZ is the first edition and not the 1924 critical edition of Rawidowicz.

Gravatar Steg, so you're the one! The copy you bought is probably the same one that I saw in 2004 but regretfully put aside as beyond my tourist's budget. I didn't realize that it was probably the only copy for sale in the known world. But no hard feelings, now that I can download it at will.

Gravatar Sorry Dan, but I'M the one who bought the copy you passed up. Thank you! I also found (in case anyone needs something from them) Mavo leMahzor Bnei Roma, and Igrot ShaDaL in 2 vols (in an ebay book lot).

Gravatar grey area, would you be so kind as to email me about Mavo leMahzor Bnei Roma, and Igrot ShaDaL? thank you.

dbmin9NOSPAM@aol.com

Gravatar I tried, but am getting an Undeliverable Mail message.

Gravatar sorry, I should have been clear: remove the word NOSPAM. I put it there because spammers harvest legitimate emails that are posted online. Writing NOSPAM (to be removed) is a common convention to circumvent that. Please try again. Thank you!

Gravatar had a funny feeling...

Gravatar didn't realize that it was probably the only copy for sale in the known world
The sefer is around all the time.

Gravatar Grey area, sorry for joining this late but could you send me an email too?

baalkriah@yahoo.co.uk

Gravatar You might want to take a look at this service as well:

http://www.publicdomainreprints.org

They can reprints these books easily. Althought they do not support Hebrew right now, that is probably fixable.
