There is an earlier work of fiction involving the keter by Ammon shamosh (inspired some type of an israeli tv series)
(shamosh'also published a very good popular non fiction acount of the keter)

Chaim Sabato, too.
One thing I always flip to is whether there's a mention of something "burned." I just came across a memoir on Shabbat (of one of the people involved in bringing it to Israel) that used that word. Now we know that the marks on the pages are not burns. (Not sure if it was in time for the memoir-author.)
I recently went to a shiur by a prominent Rosh Yeshiva in Israel which contained remarks like "a codex is a fancy word for a Sefer Torah" and "the first part of the Chumash is missing because it was rolled in a single roll and the Torah was on the outside and that was burned." Amazing.

Ugh. A codex is davka not a fancy word for a sefer torah (i.e., scroll). It's a bound book.
